SF Chinatown dinner tonight
Where would you recommend we eat tonight in Chinatown with out-of-towners? We'll have between 5 and 7 adults, and 3 kids (ages 5, 7, 9). The out-of-towners live in fairly rural Pennsylvania.

Not sure if this reply is in time for you, but we ate at City View and loved it.
Also not sure if it is open today. From an old thread on here: Author: DebitNM ([email protected]) Date: 03/19/2008, 06:56 pm We didn't know where to go as it was kind of a spur of the moment. so I dedided to ask the locals. I went into 3 differents shops and asked them where they would go to have Dim Sum. A lovely young lady at the Red Blossom Tea Company suggest City View and she even went onto the internet to double check address and gave us walking directions. It was a very nice, bright restaurant with lots of tables and we got a table right away.[662 Commerical, a tiny street off Kearny St; between Chinatown and Financial District]. It cost us $38 with tax and 1 beer. We ate plenty of food and it was very good. We got there just before Noon on Thursday and sat right down. Within 10 minutes the line was out the door. Carts were stocked, frequent, varied and servers were pleasant and helpful. We highly recommend City View. Deb |
Thanks. I'm going to call to see if they're open. R&G Lounge IS open, so that's an alternative too.

No dice, looks like City View is only open for lunch. Another time.

Sorry! Does it have to be Chinatown? Another favorite is Tadich Grill. Such great fish [sanddabs] and cioppino.

Has to be Chinatown or North Beach :-), and can't be terribly expensive (5 of them and 3 are kids)

Well, the wait was too long at R&G Lounge (45 minutes, and the little kids couldn't wait) so we wandered around the corner and ended up at Imperial Palace, which was quite inexpensive and much better than expected. I'd give it 3* -- the lemon chicken was delicious, egg rolls not so great, mu shu good but ordinary, beef chow mein very tasty, etc.
