SF Chinatown dim sum?

Where's best dim sum in San Fran's Chinatown? AAA lists Kan's and Empress of China, the latter sounds like a tourist trap. Apprciate some guidance.

Meriwa or Asia Gardens on a side street from Grant (sorry, just go there, never look at the street name!), believe it's Pacific Street.

Yes, the ones you mentioned are tourist traps. Also don't go to the ugly green restaurant, Yuet Wah (?) that is on the corner of Broadway and Stockton and featured on an episode of the Emerile Lagasse show - dreadful food!

Another Chinatown location where we had good Chinese food (surprise! surprise!) was the Far East Cafe on Grant Street. It's a Cantonese restaurant and dates back to immediately after the Great Earthquake in 1906. Big old funky restaurant. Don't know if they serve dim sum or not.

The best dim sum in San Francisco that we've had is at the Harbor Village Seafood Restaurant in the Embarcadero Center (nonChinatown location). A bit on the expensive side and not as many choices.

Happy eating! Go early (before 11:15am) if you are going on a weekend. Otherwise a long wait.

My very favorite dim sum restaurant is Yank Sing. Very clean, fabulous variety, delicious food-----a great place for a leisurely lunch, sampling all the wonderful bites.

Yes, Yank Sing is a good choice, another nonChinatown location. In the financial district on Battery, caters to the business people during the week, so very busy weekdays.

If you want good dim sum, Chinatown is probably the last place to look! :)

Battery Street is not that far from SF Chinatown, but a bit of a downhill walk from Chinatown - just a bit!

I have eaten at Yank Sing at a variety of locations over the years and it is quite good. We however have stopped going as their prices have really gone up over the last two years. lately have done Kan's which is pretty good and less than half the price.
