Sorry.... Hit send to soon. I can't seem to find in my guide book/literature where I read this. Does it exist or am I thinking of something else? If so, does it follow the path of the water, or go inland a little. We are very interested in walking this. Does anyone have any information they could share? Thanks so much. Vacationmom

Mom, you can do a search for GGNRA - Golden Gate National Recreation Area, should find a map and whatever else you need,
also try Crissy Field in SF, maybe they have info on their website.
The promenade does exist, popular among joggers. Maybe not all the way from Fishermans though.

Walk along Marina Blvd (next to the Marina Green) which is on the water. Continue on this street past Chrissy Fields and it will take you to Ft. Point (under the Golden Gate Bridge). There is a path that will take you to the top of the bridge. It is a LONG walk but you are next to the water the whole time with some fantastic views!

We just returned from SF recently, with good intentions to walk from F. Wharf to and across the G.Gate Bridge. Boy am I glad we decided to rent bikes...it's a l..o..n..g walk! Plus it's very hilly! Beautiful, though!
If you go, bring water, a windbreaker and really comfy shoes. There's one concession stand right at the entrance to the bridge. It will take you a good couple of hours, plus remember your return trip, unless you have other plans.
Don't forget to stop at the Buena Vista for an Irish Coffee before you head out!

Thanks Southernbelle for the tips. We actually are planning in doing the walk in at least two stages. One day we are taking the bus to the Exploratorium, and then doing the walk from the Exploratorium to the Bridge...I want to at least walk a ways out on the bridge, even if we don't get to cross the entire bridge.... Then taking the bus back to our hotel located in the Fisherman's Wharf area. Another day we are planning to take the walk from the Wharf up to around the Cow Hollow Area and exploring up there...depending on how tired we are, we will grab the bus back.... So hopefully, just a "one way" walk, but in two stages. I am truly looking foward to our trip! Thanks again

Mom don't count on getting off the bus at the Exploratorium and walking to the bridge The area is so beautiful, you will want to hang out there for a while and take pictures. The newlyweds usually go to the lakes near Exploratorium for their wedding pics.
By the way Sausalito is not that far from the bridge if you are a good walker. My elderly parents made it with us.

Thanks for all the info! Actually..... we were planning to go to Sausalito and just take the Ferry both ways; perhaps I will rethink this and incorporate it into the walk across the Bridge... Good Ideas!!
