Seward, Whittier cruises recommendation

I know the cruises out of Whittier are popular but Whittier is the only place in AK we didn't like. If you go, make sure you know when the one-way tunnel is open in your direction.

We took the longest Kenai Fjords tour on a day that happened to be sunny with very calm seas. The captain was able to take us into a little cove thru a narrow gap and said they can only get the boat thru that gap a few times during the summer. The ocean was like a lake. Due to distance, the return trip is more speed and less sightseeing. My husband napped and I think other folk did, too. It had been an exciting day. A glacier didn't calve for us but the ship's engines were turned off so we could hear the ice clinking against the boat and the eerie sounds of the glacier moving.

My husband had great sea legs until one day deep sea fishing off the New England coast in rough seas. He got very sick and was nervous about our planned trip. I got the sea bands and I can't remember what else but with the calm day, he was fine. BUT, if you have any chance of getting sea sick, you aren't going to enjoy a Fox Island dinner. We love Seward and have been there more than once. Other things to do besides the cruise. We stayed at a b&b the night before.

We did the 8 hour Kenai Fjords tour and loved it. There were so many whales out that day, the captain kept us out longer. It was great. Resurrection Bay is so beautiful.

I went with Major Marine from Seward and it was a spectacular glorious day.

Apples and oranges. The Whittier cruises are all about glaciers; the Seward/Kenai Fjords cruises are more about wildlife (but also some glacier viewing.) The Whittier glacier cruises are on fairly sheltered waters, the Seward cruises on big water for part of the time.

Thanks all. I have made my decision to do 7.5hr kenai fjords cruise that gives both glaciers and wild life. Going to keep my fingers crossed for the weather to be sunny in August.
