Seward Accomodations
 

In VERY last minute planning could I get some input between the Seward Windsong Lodge and the Edgewater? Both are equally priced. The Windsong does have the restaurant but looks very motelish whereas the Edgewater appears to have a little more privacy with the "view" rooms. Parking is also a factor. All opinions are appreciated. TIA

I haven't stayed at either but remembering thinking that I would rather stay at the Edgewater than the Windsong.

The Edgewater gives you fabulous views of the bay and mountain scenery. It also places you right inside a town that is small enough to walk everywhere.

The Windsong, looked nice but has no mountain or water scenery and is too far out of town to walk anywhere.

I don't think you can go wrong with either.

The Edgewater looks really nice, especially the water view rooms and seems to have a lot of amenities.

The Windsong is at the entrance to Exit glacier, and while you may not get panoramic views from all rooms, the scenery outside is fabulous! The restaraunt is one of the best we tried in all of Alaska. We toured one of the hotel rooms and found them quite large, well equipped and very clean.

We made the mistake of staying in the Van guilder inn...horrible place in Seward.

We were looking at the oceanfront B&B near Millers Landing. Has anyone stayed there or near there? It looks like a great view?

Connie, you answered my question! We like to be where you can walk out for breakfast or a pint without being held hostage to the car. I just needed to hear someone agree with me . Thanks so much!

lcuy - what type of meal did you have at the Windsong. We will be staying at the the military lodging in Seward - but was wondering about be good places to eat - was it expensive? Thanks.

I can't remmeber the details on appetisers and salads, but I remember my salmon fettucine..the best I've ever had. My husband had a grilled salmon fillet, one daughter had a vegetarian pizza and the other a meat topped pizza, and I had a terrific cobbler for dessert. We all agreed this was the best meal we had in Alaska (including our cruise up there).
I don't remember the prices, so it must have been reasonable for Alaska.

The view was just awesome..We sat at the big picture window in front and the mountains/glaciers are just right there in your face. Tehre may have been a river there too but it is the mountains I remember! It was so gorgeous.

I would pick the Edgewater based only on convenient in town location. Best and most fun meal we had in Seward area was Resurrection Roadhouse just outside of town. Good mix of local people and excellent food. Great "Alaska" atmosphere.
As far as B & B at Millers Landing I think salan means Alaska Saltwater Lodge. Nice place right on the beach, spectacular views. We got a view bedroom that was very spacious. Good continental breakfast included. Only possible negative is it is not very convenient to the town - kind of remote down a rough road. We really liked the place though.

Just a note to clarify...the Resurrection Roadhouse is the restaraunt at the Windsong lodge. so DaveS and I both had good meals at the same place!

The consensus here really makes me feel good about staying at the Edgewater and definitely going to the Windsong to eat. Thanks everyone.

Salan AVOID the Ocean front B&B in Seward. I rarely post negatives on properties, but this place is a dump. I spent 14 nights in Alaska in March and this was the worse. AND I have low standards. :) Dirty unmade beds in the loft- was told we shouldn't be using them (I had made my request and confirmation for 2 beds), hot water ran out in 5 mins. and did NOT heat back up for hours, Filthy bedding on the main bed- smelled like feet, dirty comforter. NO rail on 2 stairways. Personal items in bathroom- like someone left in a hurry- but clearly someone was staying there when not rented. I sent a factual email of my concerns that got no response.

budgetqueen thank you on the info...it looked lovely online.how is that area over all? never been to ak,thought it would have neat water view.

Going to Millers Landing is via a pot holed unpaved road, some single lane. It is an "unkept" area in my opinion. Lots of junk laying around in yards, industrial section. Worth a drive- and I have stayed this area twice. But don't recommend it for most people- as mentioned- I do have low standards. :)

Just returned from Alaska and spent 3 nights at the Edgewater. Had a spectacular view room overloooking the harbor. Otters were visible a good portion of the time. Our room was large with a balcony, small refrig, microwave. A continental breakfast is served in the basement area but it is bright and doesn't feel like a basement. Decent restaurants are close by. I'd highly recommend the Edgewater.

We also saw the Seward Windsong which looked lovely with great views but a car or shuttle is necessary to get to town or Exit Glacier.
