Sept. Trip to New York
 

My husband is a huge New York Yankee fan, He will be celebrating his 40th birthday at the end of August. A friend (who can afford to) is sending money for his birthday to be used to see a Yankee game. Which airport do we fly into? Where to stay? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Better get those Yankee tickets, somehow, some way, forthwith, though. There are likely none available except, perhaps, on EBay.

Airport depends upon your city of departure and best available (and cheapest) flights.

Again, try Priceline or Hotwire for last minute seats, far superior to booking last minute fares otherwise...

Note that Hotwire and Priceline both offer short notice weekend package deals. I've had fabulous luck with Hotwire, where the hotel is "revealed" ahead of time. On Priceline, you still have to endure the "bidding process", so you must do your homework in order to bid intelligently.

At this late date, Hotwire is probably the better bet - try Newark, JFK and LaGuardia and see what comes up. Only difference between airports is the air fare and getting into the city once you land. I wouldn't quibble over getting into the city methods/costs at this late date...

You're gonna have to hop like mad to get ball game tickets and book this on such short notice!

I agree with djkbooks' advice. I like the Midtown East area as it's centrally located. As far as the airports are concerned, LaGuardia is the closest to Manhattan, then Newark and JFk is the farthest. Newark is definitely more convenient than JFK beacuse of the train link into The City (AirTrain to New Jersey Transit).

If you bid $75 on Priceline for a 2.5-star hotel in Midtown East, you'll probably get the Courtyard By Marriott Midtown East; the last 20 people did!

Midtown east is a good location -- close to the #4 subway train which runs along Lexington Avenue and takes you directly to (and from) Yankee Stadium.

Try to fly into LGA if you can, of course. And good luck getting Yankees tickets!
