Fodor's Travel Talk Forums - Self-guided kayaking in Maui

My boyfriend and I will be in Maui in July and want to rent a kayak to take out on our own, without a tour. I saw South Pacific Kayaks in Kihei recommended...my question is this: other places we've rented kayaks have been right on the beach, so getting the kayak to the water was no problem. But it seems that in Maui, several rental places I've seen aren't right on the beach so you'd have to transport the thing (on top of a rented Ford Focus?!) to the water somehow. <BR><BR>Any recommendations for a rental place very close to the water? Or for the best way/vehicle you've found to transport it...I've never done anything like this, is it difficult to get it on an equipment rack on a car? We'd love to rent one for the week but don't know if it will be too much hassle.<BR><BR>Kristin
