Seelbach Hilton Louisville
Worth it?? We will be passing through the area shortly and it looks like the place to stay for a night or two. Checking out Churchill Downs.

The Seelbach, the Brown & the Galt House are probably the best 3 Hotels in Louisville. You can't go wrong w/any of them.
|
The Seelbach and Brown are restoaration hotels. They have beautiful lobbies, fine dining and (usually) excellent service. However, like all old hotels, have somewhat small rooms and basic bathrooms. We stayed on the concierge level of the Brown once and it was really nice. The Galt House has a great river view , but according to reviews may be a potshot whether you get a newly renovated room. If not, welcome to the early 60s. Service can be spotty there as well. The new downtown Marriott is an excellent choice, as is the chic 21C which has been getting a lot of press lately.

Restoration...I can't type. Also, the Brown is under new management and I haven't heard many new reviews.

The public areas of the new Marriott are gorgeous. Linda is right about the Galt House. If you get a room on the East side (the suite side), your room will be lovely. If you get one on the West side, you could have a nice room or you could be in for a flashback, complete with avocado green bath fixtures! I've haven't stayed in the Seelbach, but friends who have loved everything about it except the small bathrooms. The Hyatt, while a pretty typical big city hotel, has been recently renovated, and the rooms are very nice.
