Fabulous information, surfergirl-- we keep meeting in the LA area on this board - haha! As you can see I am headed here after I check out Whiskey A Go Go...
I like your suggestions, and appreciate the Buffalo Milk ratings! I also love ceramic tile and will enjoy looking more closely at everything. Sounds like Catalina is going to live up to my dreams... |
Thanks -- you keep hitting up some of my favorite things -- music, bars, and having fun!
|
Ditto! And I also love funkiness, so am always on the lookout for something really unique.
I looked at the flying fish tour (fascinating) and all the others they offer as well. It all looks interesting. I am so glad we decided to go and stay for the night. Yes, drinking and not having to worry about driving is great, especially when you are on a road trip and have to drive "home" from everywhere you go! |
Update: Loved Catalina Island-- thanks for all your help! We stayed at the Hermosa Hotel in one of the cottages, which was "funky" but fun. We found it totally walkable and couldn't see a need for renting a golf cart for our overnight trip. We did take the Casino tour as well as the Flying Fish tour, and enjoyed both.
I can see how Buffalo Milk could be dangerous! Wow! They go down way too easy! Anyway-- enjoyed it and appreciate everyone's input! |
When were you on the island? I took the lying fish boat on June 28. Stayed 2 nights at MacRae's and loved LUV'D my 2 and a skosh days there. I think 3 full days would be about perfect.

I was there over the 4th (all this prior talk about Buffalo Milk got me craving!), so even with my recent knee surgery (nothing too serious, sports tear) and the fact that I couldn't go in the water (stitches still in) and couldn't do the zip-line tour, still went and had a great time.
Good news is, I learned from an islander that Catalina Express, in celebration of its 30th year is giving out a FREE, yes FREE ticket to go on your birthday. Rule is, you must leave on your birthday, but don't have to return on your birthday. Go online to Catalina Express (I think the promotion is until May 2012) and sign up and they send you a free ticket! Just did it, because stitches are OUT, the zipline is calling my name, and my birthday's this Monday! |
Happy birthday, surfer girl! I saw that promotion on the Catalina Express and saw at least one person taking advantage of it. Also wanted to thank you for helping with the Whiskey A Go Go. You were right, we just wandered in while the band was setting up. They are really nice and we had fun exploring and taking pictures. We would have stayed for the show but had tickets to see the Monkees that night, which was really cool.
Janis, we were there July 17 for one night. We went over about 10 a.m. and left the next day about 2 p.m. I am sure three days would really give you time to chill out! |
Happy Birthday surfergirl! My b'day is in Dec so probably not he best time to take a free trip to Catalina :(
Disneyland had a free-on-your-birthday offer a couple of years ago -- I didn't let Dec deter me that time. jayne: I took the helicopter over on a Mon morning and and the ferry back on Wed morning. Flying gave me a bit longer on the Island and was easier since I stayed on the Q. Mary the night before. |
