Seeking NYC Hotel suggestions
 

I am planning a weekend in NYC with my husband. Can you recommend a fairly luxurious hotel that is convenient to the theaters? I am also hoping to find a great breakfast in the hotel or close by, and a great spa. Is this possible for $500 a night in November, (not Thanksgiving weekend)?

We were in New York May 2006 and stayed
at the Library Hotel for four nights.
We loved the hotel and it is in a great
midtown location. You can walk everywhere. They have a nice breakfast
and wine and cheese in the afternoons.
Also cookies and snacks available all day.

The spa makes it tougher. The only hotel that might fit the bill for all your wants is the newly renovated Jumeriah Essex House on Central Park South. It says on the website "Guests have access to the following amenities:
Health spa services, massage treatments, steam bath..." but I don't think they're on site. The hotel is not right in the Times Square area, but it's not a bad walk.

The W Times Square is not what I'd call luxurious and rooms are small, but they do have a spa, a decent restaurant and are certainly convenient and probably affordable.

Don't get me wrong. I've stayed there and I like it, but I never considered it luxurious.

We're staying at the Benjamin in November. For most of the month it's over $500.- although late November looks under $500.-. It's a AAA 4 diamond, and my daughter said it was "really nice". Great location (50th St. & Lexington Ave), and I'm looking forward to staying there. There is a spa in the hotel, though we are going to another one near the B for facials (I don't know the name of it). http://www.thebenjamin.com/

Yes, I think the Michelangelo could be considered luxurious and has some of the largest hotel bathrooms in the city. The Benjamin is a good option that I meant to include. It is not as luxurious as some of the others, but the in house spa makes it defintely worth considering.

I'd recommend the Michelangelo, but I guess we just disagree on the definition of "luxurious."

I LOVE the new york palace and depending on the dates the rates can be around the price you are willing to pay...

Thank you all for your suggestions. Some of them look like good possibilities. I've had to change my plans to March or April. But I'll start to check these out for them.

You might look into priceline.com and try bidding--check out biddingfortravel.com first to see what things are going for. Maybe make a cancellable reservation first and then try. That's what I did and was very happy with Crowne Plaza for $185 a night (plus fees--about $225., but a bargain for NYC).
