Seeking NYC downtown hotel recs

Somewhere north of the Financial District but south of the Flatiron. A Friday night at the end of the month, limit of $400. There are two of us.

My sis and I are taking a trip there because we can. Normally we stay somewhere around CPS, but this time, we'd like to try someplace more hipster-ish. Can you recommend someplace? No need for parking, dog services, etc. Just hip and happening.

I can't tell you about rates, but you should check out the Standard Hotel that straddles the Highline. You can't get more hipster-ish in Manhattan than that.

But the real hipster hotel (and destination) isn't downtown. It's in Williamsburg and it's called the Wythe.

How could it be more hipsterish than the Jay Z/Solange/Beyonce elevator battle at the Standard?

And if The Standard is all booked, look at the Gansevoort Hotel a few blocks away. They're both in your "hipsterish" category.

Blue Moon Hotel in the middle of the Lower East Side, as hipster as you get this side of Brooklyn

I did not think of it as a hipster hotel, but in a way Cosmopolitan Hotel at 95 West Broadway could qualify, and you could spring for an upgraded room at that price point.
