seeking honeymoon tips for Big Sur
Hi
I am trying to plan my honeymoon in california's Big Sur area, including Carmel, for this coming September. Can't figure out what is a nice, romantic spot, beyond the astronomically expensive Post and Ventura Inns. Any suggestions? Happy to pay between $150 and $250 a night! thanks so much for any advice! deb |
Hi Deb, I was going to suggest Ventana Inn, but maybe that's what you meant by Ventura Inn. If it wasn't, then I'd sure consider Ventana. It's by far one of our favorite places and would be perfect for a honeymoon. Best wishes.

Do a search here. In Big Dur, you're sort of limited to a handful of places - Post Ranch (really expensive, but worth at least one night), Ventana (my favorite, and less expensive - though only slightly unless you snag a web deal) and Deetjens (much less expensive, but somewhat . . . primitive). There are a few others, but I'm not familiar with them. As to Carmel, there are LOTS of places. All kinds of cute B&Bs. But it's been a few years since I've stayed in Carmel. So do a search. |
One of the best places on earth - Deetjen. You must appreciate the primitive, laid back, rustic cabins. There is a good restaurant there and it is very convienent to the rest of Big Sur. You could stay in Carmel a couple of nights then go to Big Sur. I think Deetjen is very romantic.

I actually like Pacific Grove better than Carmel - it is right next door, so you can see all the same stuff regardless of which town you stay in. Pacific Grove is really beautiful with great architecture, a nice coastline, paved walking and biking path along the water, and just a really nice atmosphere. It comes down to personal preference though - a lot of people absolutely adore Carmel.
