Seeking>>Anniversary Ideas NYC region?

Hello Everyone
My wife and I are celebrating 20 years of marriage in late Oct.
We live in NJ and thinking of going to NYC or somewhere close for just overnight..
Can anyone suggest a trendy or unusual hotel in NYC?
As well what is the best way to get SNL tickets?
Finally any good ideas on what to do the first weekend in NOV?
I know this is a loaded question, as we have been to NYC many times.
We plan probably to take NJT to Penn Station and from there who knows what..
It would be interesting to see that raised garden that used to be a subway track..
Any ideas on a restaurant would be great!
Thanks for any help on such an open ended request!
Sincerely
Dan

What price range for hotel room?
First weekend in Nov - NYC Marathon on 11/7

High price rooms IF any available, lots of people...

What kind of restaurant? Type of food, price range?

Hotel Gansevoort in the Meatpacking District with many great restaurants nearby
The Highline Park is a few blocks away.

SNL tickets are given out by lottery sometime in the fall. Check NBC website for more info.

OK without any idea of your budget, some hotel suggestions would be:

1. The Plaza - room with a park view
2. The Ritz-Carlton Central Park – with park view
3. The Ritz-Carlton Battery Park – with harbour/river view, great sunsets
4. The Four Seasons – with park view, some rooms have balconies
5. Peninsula Hotel - for location and top floor bar
6. Mandarin Oriental – for views and west side location
7. St Regis – for location and history
7. Waldorf Astoria or Helmsley – for location and ambience

Or try trendier places like Morgans, the Mercer, the Royalton or one of the several W’s. I also like 60 Thompson, they have their own rooftop bar for guests only and a good location in Soho. (Thompson has a few other hotels downtown as well).

Or try some smaller historic hotels like the Washington Square hotel or the Park South.

Without any idea of what your interests are, it is kind of hard to make reccos for activities. If you are in town for the Marathon weekend, then getting someplace where you can watch the runners could be fun and interesting. Otherwise, can you let us know what your interests are?

The “garden” you are talking about is called the High Line, it runs for about 2 miles from Gansevoort Street to West 30th (currently only open up to 20th street, the rest opens next year).
See http://www.nycgovparks.org/parks/highline/. It runs under the Standard Hotel, which may be a place to consider staying.

Thanks everyone!
Great ideas..and no I am not going to see the Marathon..so maybe not a great time to go..
I would be interested in just walking around..
Maybe check out the restaurants of one of those people my wife sees on TV all the time..
Interests could be a broadway play maybe...
Price range for hotel would be about 400 per night
dinner unless something very cool would be about 100 per person..
I am thinking now Baltimore or Annapolis instead of NYC as it will be packed...any other ideas..I want to drive less than three hours from Princeton NJ

Well,NYC will be packed. And while $400 will get you a pleasnat hotel it definitely won;t get you a luxury one s it would elsewhere - esp that weekend.

Don;t know your drive time to DC - but $400 would get you a lot there on the weekend - and there will definitely be lots to do.

Philadelphia has lots to do and very good restaurants. And it's certainly convenient. I've had good weekends there (coming from NYC). Or what about New Hope?
