Sedona trip in September
 

We are spending 9 days in September in Sedona at the Summit Resort. Any suggestions as to what we must do, must see, restaurants, good shopping areas, etc. We will be with another couple. I know the Pink Jeep tours are highly suggested. We went to the Grand Canyon last fall so any other day trips? We will have a mini van- should we have a 4 wheeled drive instead? Thanks for your help. We are excited!!

If you're traveling from the Phoenix/Scottsdale area, you can easily stop off and view the Montezuma ruins.

A fun half day trip from Sedona is to visit the town of Jerome.

If you're taking a Pink Jeep tour, their Broken Arrow tour is highly recommended.

Thank you all for your great suggestions- yes we are coming from Scottsdale where we are spending the night on Saturday as we cannot get into our condo until Sunday, September 4. So stopping at the ruins and then having lunch on the way up would be a good idea. We definitely want to do the Pink Jeep- Broken Arrow- tour as I know that is highly recommended on both Fodors and Trip Advisor. It sounds like breakfast at the Coffee Pot is a good idea, stopping for sandwiches at Sedona Memories and then a picnic lunch at Red Rock crossing- lots to do each day. We do want to get to Jerome one day also. It should be fun week! Thanks again.... Melissa

In early September, do the PJ Broken Arrow tour early in the day, because afternoon temperatures will still be very warm.

You will not need a 4 wheel drive unless you plan on doing some serious offroading.

Heartline Cafe is very good. Have lunch or dinner at Enchantment Resort(you will need to make reservations ahead of time). Have breakfast or lunch at the creekside restaurant at L'Auberge de Sedona, or have dinner at their fancier restaurant.

We stayed at the Summit Resort in June 2011. It is in a fabulous setting, beautifully landscaped and the condos are luxurious,comfortable and immaculate. The only downside we found was the heavy sales push to buy a time share. We stayed through RCI, so we weren't interested in buying another time share. Just be aware and tell them if you're not interested before the spiel gets too lengthy. (You could be off exploring!)

We loved the Heartline Cafe, Chapel of the Holy Cross and Bell and Cathedral Rock.

Sunset Crater was awfully hot, but might be more comfortable in Sept. Well worth a trip!

If you go hiking, maybe you'll be lucky enough to spot a Javelina!

We always enjoy visiting Montezuma's Well and also the nearby town of Jerome.
Red Rock State Park is nice, too, and there are ranger-led tours.
