Sedona to Grand Canyon Route
I see there are 3 different routes to get to the Grand Canyon from Sedona. I have been on one of the routes. What does everyone consider to be the most "scenic" route from Sedona? Any input would be greatly appreciated! |
89A up Oak Creek Canyon (past Slick Rock) to Flagstaff, then 180 through the foothills of the San Francisco Peaks is to me the most scenic way to South Rim from Sedona. AZ179 past some of the red rock formations to I17 would be quicker, but not as scenic once you get on the interstate.

We just got back from a similar trip. It depends on how much time you have. We took 89A up along Oak Creek then picked up 40 West to Williams and then took 64 up to Grand Canyon. 89A was very scenic, but then mostly highway.

Thanks for the replies. I have gone the 180 route and thought it was lovely. Was just wondering if 64 is scenic at all or whether I should just stick with 180.

US180 is MUCH more scenic than AZ64. I40 to AZ64 is quicker, but that is because you don't have the curvy winding road that is US180. Another option, but one that would add a lot of time is US89 north past Sunset Crater and Wupatki, then take AZ64 (on the other side of the Park) which travels along side the Little Colorado River for a ways. You'll enter the part near Desert View Overlook and be going opposite most of the traffic. Enjoy your trip!! Keith
