sedona summer weather
 

My family is considering a trip to Sedona this summer, but we're concerned that it may be too hot for us to be out doing what we enjoy - hiking, biking, sightseeing. Can anyone tell me what it's like there in the summer? We're limited to travel between late June and early August. We'll have our 2 kids - ages 7 and 9 as well as my husband's 75+ year old parents.

We were in Sedona the last week of July last year. The temps peaked at about 100, but the humidity was more than we were used to. July & August are there monsoon months, with frequent afternoon thunderstorms. We did outdoor things in the morning and hit the pool in the afternoons.

I was in Sedona in mid July once. It was upper 80's for the highs. Warm but pleasant, and I don't recall high humidity, Although weather varies from year to year.

where are you from? If you are from Phoenix like I am, then it is nice and cool.

If you limit activity to the morning hours, it probably won't seem too hot. If it is a typical 'monsoon' summer (which we haven't had many of recently), there will be a thunderstorm sometime in the afternoon.

I'm from Asheville, North Carolina. We're in the mountains and the temps don't go above 90 often in the summer. It sounds like the nights and mornings are nice and cool in Sedona. Is that also true at some of the sights I've been reading about that we might go to, like the Indian ruins, Montezuma's Castle, Tuzigoot Nat'l Monument?

If you are traveling from Phoenix I would recommend both Montezuma and Tuzigoot, you can do a loop. Oak creek canyon is on the north side of Sedona, it is cool there, and there is hiking. Also Slide Rock park, a natural water slide in a creek. It still will be hot. I assume you are going to the Grand Canyon too, it is about 3 hours north of Sedona. There is a fun train from Williams to the Canyon, nice as traffic in the summer is bad. I would also recommend to you and your kids a Pink Jeep tour in Sedona. It goes back into the red rock ares and is very exciting, may give your parents a heart attack. Go in the morning. Have fun, it is beautiful.

Highs should be in the lower 90s, lows in the mid-60s. As others have said, that's the rainiest part of the year, but humidity should still be relatively low.

I have to qualify my response. We are from Northern California, so any humidity over 20-25% feels muggy. Spoiled by the dry weather.

I would still go if I were you.
