Sedona/GC/Scottsdale

Will be in AZ in May. Planning on spending 2 nights in Sedona, 2 nights at Grand Canyon South Rim and 2 nights back in Scottsdale. Will be doing some short day hikes (Sedona/GC) and touring around (jeep tour, cathedral rock, etc). We have a night between leaving GC and arriving in Scottsdale unaccounted for. I've been reading on this post about Monument Valley but am guessing it's too far to go there for one night (GC->Scottsdale via Monument Valley). If it's too far, what would you suggest for one night? Prescott? Williams? Back to Sedona?

If you're staying someplace fun I'd spend the extra day in the Scottsdale area.

It's only 177 easy miles from the Grand Canyon to Monument Valley. Monument Valley is well worth the time. If you are spending the night at Gouldings or Kayenta it's only 325 miles back to Scottsdale. You will want to take one of the Jeep Trips into Monument Valley. You can book these in advance but it's not necessary.

Another idea would be to go up to Lake Powell which is only 138 miles north and spend the night there. Get up very early on the day you leave the GC to get there to take the all day boat tour to Rainbow Bridge National Monument. The next day it's only 285 miles back down to Scottsdale. Make sure you book the boat tour before you get there.
