Sedona for one week
Hello!
My husband and I are using my in-laws timeshare in Sedona. We would love some recommendations of things to do and places to go while there for a week in April. We like the outdoors, fun pubs and restaurants, and I love to buy local goods and gifts. I have been looking on groupon as well for some tours and deals; I am intrigued by the jeep tours- but I tend to get car sick; should I stay away? We plan to do two days at the grand canyon. Looking for advice for Sedona area. Thanks!! |
I lived near Sedona for about 15 years and spent many days hiking around the red rocks, and I'm pretty numb to all that ticky-tacky now - I appreciate the town as a good place to get dinner or an ice cream cone, and mostly don't see the rest of it anymore.

We were in Sedona last May. It was a lovely vacation. There are many jeep tours the main one which we took was Pink Jeep tour. They have offices all over and if I were you I would ask them to make a recommendation as to which tour would be best for yourself. We were on a very rocky fun tour but with your issues you might want to skip it I believe it was broken arrow? It was pretty wild. There is also a wonderful train ride which you would enjoy. By all means do the Grand Canyon it is wonder to see. I would not miss that at all beings you are so close. Will you have a rental car? It is just a gorgeous area, beyond beautiful magical, and uplifting. I love Sedona. There is a chapel to visit that sits on hillside. It is worth seeing we actually went there twice.
I would suggest the Coffee Pot for breakfast. It has great prices and wonderful amazing service. On Main street there area plethora of eateries and fun places. Many arts and crafts shops. Of course it is geared towards tourists. Do you know the name of the Timeshare? We stayed at Los Abrigados which was in a great area. Loved it! Have fun. I would suggest a tour company for the grand canyon. It is an all day tour with load of info, and history. Many rest stops. We enjoyed our day very much with this tour company. |

This is the company we used for some tours. Sheldon was our guide to the Grand Canyon. He was amazing. I highly recommend. |
Agree, walking around Red Rocks is fun.
Also walked in a few miles on the Broken Arrow trail. Saw any number of jeeps going bye. Of course, we had to walk Broken Arrow, as I had seen the movie with Jeff Chandler. cir 1950 I think. |
We go to Sedona once or twice a year. Some things to see and do:
Red Rock Crossing Oak Creek Canyon Bell Rock (easy pathway) Bell Rock/Courthouse Butte hike (about 4.5 miles) Baldwin Trail hike to Cathedral Rock Boynton Canyon hike Pink Jeep Broken Arrow tour. I can get car sick if trying to read in a moving vehicle, but never had a problem on any of the jeep tours. Verde Canyon Railroad Visit Jerome Wine tasting along Page Springs Road Browse Tlaquepaque Sunset at Red rock Crossing or Upper Red Rock Loop Road Sunrise on Airport Mesa Oak Creek Brewery restaurant in Tlaquepaque Dinner at Dahl & DiLuca Dinner at the Cowboy Club Silver Saddle Room Lunch at Sedona Memories |
" I tend to get car sick; should I stay away? "
car sickness is usually motion oriented. That said, these vehicles go very slow - they are much more problematic for people with back issues -- due to the bouncing and the vehicle climbing over downed tree limbs etc. |
If you do the Broken Arrow Pink Jeep ride, you will be too excited to get sick. So much fun!

Native American craftspeople used to set up at one of the scenic overlooks in Oak Creek Canyon (a gorgeous drive, in any event)--I hope people who are local or go more often than I do can confirm if they still do. I always liked buying from them, but it's been some years.

Thanks, NewbE, I had forgotten about that. They are still there
Up in Oak Creek Canyon there is a Dairy Queen. Beside it, in a big parking area, Native American people set up tables selling their jewelry and other crafts. There are about 8-10 tables. http://www.oakcreekcanyon.net/dq/dq1.html |
