Sedona AZ in a day??
 

We are planning a trip to Sedona/Grand Canyon area, 3/12/98 and are wondering if 1 day is enough for each area? We want to take a hike (2 hr); and jeep tour in Sedona - - is this possible in one day? Any suggestions on specific hikes to try? We welcome any suggestions!

With so much beauty concentrated in one area it would hvae been hard for me to leave Sedona after a day. To help plan my trip, I ordered the Scenic Sedona video, (I think it was 19.99) from Arozona Highways magazine. Any issue should have an order form with many videos to select from. An excellent way to see before you get to Arizona what awaits you. I'm sure they have an 800 number. If you are not into southwestern jewlery, art or clothes then you will not need extra time to explore over a hundred shops. Sedona is a photographers paradise, if you can spare more time it would be worth it.

Both Sedona and the Grand Canyon can easily be done in one day each, but be sure to come back when you have more time!!

Yes, you can do each of these in one day, but you will wish you had at least an overnight in Sedona.

You can do Sedona in a day, although you may find yourself wishing you had more time. My husband and I spent three days there last August. Our favorite hike was the Vultee Arch trail. It wasn't particularly strenuous, but the foliage along the way was beautiful and the view at the end was amazing. We also took a jeep tour--Ancient Expeditions (a division of Pink Jeep)--and really enjoyed it. They take you to some ruins, which, although not very well preserved, are still very interesting. I enjoyed seeing the rock art. Sedona has several excellent restaurants, so if you have time, be sure to have a meal or two there.

As the above messages indicate, yes you can do Sedona and the Grand Canyon in one day (each), but you'll be sorry you didn't allow yourself more time. Sedona is BEAUTIFUL and there are so many wonderful art galleries to explore. Be sure to stop in Zonies Gallery in the heart of Sedona. Also, if at all possible, please try to stay at least one night in the Grand Canyon. Sunrises and sunsets will take your breath away. Enjoy!

Your getting good advice. We were also strapped for time and we got to the Grand Canyon in time for sunset and then after a good night's sleep woke up for sunrise the next morning. It was less than 24 hours but a spectacular few hours. Sedona is more of a casual atmosphere and one or two days will let you unwind a bit.

There are four things you must do in Sedona:

1. Drive around a lot so you can see lots of incredible red rock formations.

2. TAKE A PINK JEEP TOUR. On no account skip this!

3. Hike anywhere along Oak Creek.

4. Eat dinner at Auberge du Sedona.

Sedona and the Grand Canyon can be done in a day. We often begin our stay in spend a day at Sedona - all of the above activities are noteworthy - however, there is one hike along Oak Creek that we particulary enjoy that is passes an old deserted resort with a leftover apple orchard. Very interesting... Not sure of the name of the trail, but sure any forest service personnel could help. Also, unless you want to find your "vortex" skip most of the giftshops and do the nature thing. We often stay in Flagstaff (eat at Buster's) and then head to the Grand Canyon. Good luck!

As Sedona residents, we can say the above replies give good advice. It's a 3-hour drive (110 miles) from here to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. May we suggest that you use our town as a base (unpack once), drive north via Hwy 89A through magnificent Oak Creek Canyon to Flagstaff (30 miles), then 80 miles on via Hwy 180, past 12,600-ft-high San Francisco Peaks through the pines and aspens, to Grand Canyon, then east on the Rim Drive, dropping down to the Indian trading post at Cameron, south on 89 to I-40, then west to I-17, then south a few miles to the connection with 89A, and back to Sedona once more through Oak Creek Canyon, a wonderful, one-day circular trip. You might like to stay at the Grand Canyon until sunset, in which case, just drive straight south to Williams after dark, then connect with I-40 east to I-17 south etc. In Sedona you can hike, fish, eat like a king, sleep under billions of stars, just relax. We are at 4,500-ft.
altitude; Flagstaff and the GC are 7,000. Why don't you phone the local Chamber of Commerce (they have an 800 number) and get their free guide, "Experience Sedona." You'll wish you had more time to spend with us.

We were most interested as to the comments and the questions of those folks that either are coming or going to Sedona.
We will be visiting Sedona in early may andvisiting
the Grand Canyon. Would be interested in imfo about the 12 hour tour package of the Canyon in as much as we've sign up for the tour when we made our motel reservations.
Naturally we're also interested in good eating places an afforability. This is the first time my wife and I have been to the Southwest and we're truly excited...and can't wait to head west.Thanks, Jim & Pat.
