Sedona, AZ Dining Recommendations

Hi All,

We'll be in Sedona for 2 nighths. First night is at the Hilton Resort so we're doing dinner at the resort. On our second night, we're staying at the Hampton Inn on 89A. Any suggestions on where to have a nice dinner - preferrably with game on the menu? I've done The Cowboy grill before which I love but wanted to try something new. Any suggestions? We're in our mid 30's, no kids. Expensive ok.

Thanks!

If money is no option then l'Auberge de Sedona provided one of the finest dining experiences my wife & I have ever had. For something a little more fun & Italian (& cheaper) try Dahl & Diluca.

Instead of dinner at the Hilton the 1st night, try Cucina Rustica close to that hotel in the Village of Oak Creek. See their website. It is very very good food w/great atmosphere and service. Not as stuffy and serious as L'Auberge (I've eaten at both);I like Cucina R. better.

although I agree w/SAnParis that L'Auberge is very fine dining.

You'll have to check about game on these menus...

I've been to the L'auberge in Napa and it's good but I was thinking more like Cowboy Grille atmosphere where food is good but not "fine dining". We'll be hiking all day and fine dining for evening doesn't seem to fit. Italian is a good recommendation but I doubt if they have game food.

cmd, We have a suite at the hilton resort for the first night and I remember how beautiful those rooms are so we want to order room service that night and go by the pool/spa are after. Why we decided to do the next night out for dinner.

Anyone else have any suggestions? More like Cowboy Grill without it being cowboy Grille, that is.

Thanks!

I don't think there is anything "like" Cowboy Grill, except Cowboy Grill. It is pretty unique.

Dahl & DeLuca and Cucina Rustica are both owned by the same people and their menus seem similar (so it probably wouldn't make sense to eat at both if you only have two nights). I believe Cucina Rustica is the newer of the two.

you might try Rainbow's End Steakhouse and Saloon. I THINK this is the place we ate that is right next door to a saloon where they have C&W bands on weekends. I don't recall if they have any game on the menu, but you might try giving them a call.

Hi - When I was in Sedona a couple of years ago, we ate here and it was delicious! http://www.heartlinecafe.com/menu.html
Had the pistachio crusted chicken with pomegranite sauce! Yum!

Mike, that place looks interesting. I've never seen it mentioned before. I'm putting it in my folder for the next trip in Sept.

MikePinTucson Aug 19th, 2006 01:01 PM

I hope it is still open. We found it back in 2001 when we asked around if there were any places that had C&W band and dance floor. Like I said, I think this is the place, but I just can't recall it by name.

We are going to be in Sedona in September, too. the 8th, 9th, & 10th then leave the 11th.

Too bad I will miss you, I would have been up for meeting up. I currently have reservations to go for the Jazz on the Rocks for a long weekend Sept. 19 - 24. I have been kind of on again/off again about this trip but now there is an air sale from DC area to Phoneix and I think this sale is going to clinch it for me.

That restaurant is still mentioned on Sedona Real's website and is listed on other Sedona pages.

It would be fun to have a GTG sometime in Sedona. USNR lives there, amwosu and her husband go there from their condo in Phoneix pretty frequently, and I never need much of a reason at all to go there...

Mike, that sounds like a good place. Thanks! Will have to check it out and see what kind of food.

I've seen heartline too and was considering it but it's not really like Cowboy grill, is it?

emd Aug 19th, 2006 05:15 PM

maria, if you go Rainbow's End, please post back on it.

BTW, aren't you from Houston? I think I recall that from a prior post. I lived there for 30 yrs. and started my nursing career there before heading to the D.C. area. Would rather live in Sedona.

Hi emd. Yep, I'm from Houston and NO KIDDING! Me too. I love Sedona. Where did you work here? I too am in Medicine. I work at MD Anderson Cancer Center. What made you move to DC? Houston is the health care capitol of the US, I believe, although you really can take nursing anywhere.

We lived in Sedona for a year. We recommend Heartline for fine dining, Javalina Cantina for Mexican and for a magnificent view and evening for drinks try Enchantment Resort. Enjoy!

St. Josephs and also in the Medical Center. I moved up here because I got out of clinical and into med.-legal work (asbestos back then) and started doing FDA-related and pharmaceutical work w/a firm, but for last 5 yrs I have been on my own as a med.-legal consultant.

vbreslow, I am curious about living in Sedona for a yr. and leaving. Did you end up not liking living there?

MikePinTucson Aug 20th, 2006 08:16 AM

Emd and Maria,

We will probably eat at Rainbow's End (if it is the same place I remember) and go dancing there afterwards. If we do, I will post on it when I return (Sep 11 or 12)

maria_so Aug 20th, 2006 12:03 PM

Thanks Mike. I will be there before you though but if we go there, I will post back when I return (9/10) or before we leave Sedona since I'll have my laptop with me.

MikePinTucson Aug 20th, 2006 01:14 PM

Well, I don't have a laptop, so I won't get to see your review before I get there. But from the picture, it does look like the place I remember. It has your basic western steak house fare and some really good pie.
