Sedona & Monument Valley

We will be in AZ at the end of June, staying in Kayenta and Sedona. Can anyone recommend a tour company to see Monument Valley. Our interest is photography and we are early risers. Also we've heard that most tours are out of Gouldings.
Thanks.

you can arrange things at gouldings but for a tour of the valley, we went to the headquarters and hired one of the indian guides there. it was great and his family lived in the valley (as did he) so it made his tour very personal.

We stayed at Gouldings and did an early morning tour with them (which we arranged apon arrival there) and it was fabulous. Also the view from Gouldings, especially at sundown and sunrise, was spectacular.

chelsea,

In May of 2006 we did our Monument Valley tour with Simpson's Trailhandler Tours and I can't recommend them highly enough. They were great. We did a photo tour, just the two of us and our Navajo guide. He took us all sorts of great places, and at one point, played his flute and sang Navajo songs for us.

Before our trip this had been something I'd had to talk my husband into. He just didn't think having our own guide in MV was that big a deal. After we got back home he told everyone that this was the highlight of our trip. And, considering all we did on that trip, that's high praise indeed.

Many, if not most, of the other tours we saw were in larger vehicles with up to a dozen people. We were in a small "jeep" and were able to stay as long as we wanted in any place we stopped. And could ask him to stop if we saw something we wanted to photograph. We even had our guide helping us look for photo ops for the types of photos we like to take.

If you do a search here on Fodor's for Monument Valley tours I'm sure you'll find more posts from people who've also used Simpson's and loved them.

If you're interested, this was their website address last year. www.trailhandlertours.com If they've changed it, just Google and you'll find them. That's how I did it the first time.

Have a great trip. I've fallen in love with our beautiful Southwest.

I second Floridafran's recommendation for Simpson's. We've used them twice and had great tours both times. Ask for Richard.
