Kristen, have a look at this web site; http://www.arizonahighways.com

Arizona Highways is the quintessential guide to all things AZ and has been for decades. We used one of their "back roads" guide books to plan our trip. You can find them on Amazon or maybe from your local library. At the least, read the blog and recommended places to stay from the web site. I think you'll find it enhances your adventure.

Enjoy!

What are your thoughts on driving rim to rim, so that we see all 4?

I'm not sure seeing both rims is really worth it. If you want to see more in the area, I'd suggest flying in to Las Vegas then do a circle: Sedona, South Rim, Page, Zion National Park and back to Las Vegas. 800 mile round trip

Based on the recommendations so far, we have cancelled the all day expensive tour and made the following plans - Sedona (first and last night), GC South Rim (2 nts), Page (2 nts). We will do a 40-50 minute flight from South Rim over the Canyon and then do separate antelope canyon and possibly raft tours while in Page. Lake Powell is beautiful!

We will plan on a separate trip down the road to fly into Vegas and see the Hoover Dam, and maybe the West/North Rims.

I'd go straight to the Grand Canyon (assuming you can get your reservations changed) for 2 nights, then Page and finish in Sedona for 2 nights. I think you'll get a little more out of the Sedona area if you're there for 2 consecutive nights rather than 1 night at the beginning and end.

The drive from Phoenix to the Grand Canyon is 4 hours vs. 2 hours if you just go to Sedona. Definitely doable on your first day since you arrive at noon.

Good idea to split up that all-day tour into a do-it-yourself trip. That sounded like a really long day and I'm sure you'll enjoy the 3 things more if you can spread them out.

I agree with WAW about going to the GC first, as long as your flight into PHX lands early enough for you to be at the GC before sunset. I also agree about not splitting your time in Sedona.

If your flight lands early, you could also drive straight to Page (about 4 1/2 hours), then the GC, then Sedona, which is much closer to PHX than the other places.
