Sedona

Is it too cold to go to Sedona in January and play tennis, hike, bike etc...we are thinking of staying at Enchantment Resort but am worried that it is a far drive from the airport for only 4 nights and 3 days. Any advice?

If you want to play tennis, hike and bike, why not go to Scottsdale near Phoenix.
Closer to the airport, better chance of good weather.

Been to Scottsdale, we wanted a quaint place vs a city type place.

THe weather in Jan. and Feb. is wonderful in Sedona. I have been there several times then. It is cool in the mornings but very dry, and it warms up as the sun shines. Typically we were a fleece top over a long sleeve shirt in the morning and by 10 am we are peeling off the fleece nd hiking in just a long sleeve shirt. At night you'll need a shell jacket.

Those are the best months in Sedona for hiking and biking IMO.

I am not sure why Ida thinks you have a better chance of good weather in Scottsdale. A few years ago there was some unusual rain in Sedona in mid-Feb. But I have never encountered that in Jan.

I go to Sedona every year, sometimes twice a year, and fly into Phoenix, rent a car, drive the easy two hours to Sedona. 3 days and 4 nights is fine. Just leave in time on the last day to return your rent car at the airport.

Thanks, I think we will go there in Feb. I appreciate the response.

I assume that you mean driving from Phoenix airport. It's a very easy drive from the airport, about 1 1/2 hour if I recall up the main interstate. Then you just cut over to Sedona ... The road driving into Sedeona from the interstate has some great views. I would definitely recommend going. We stayed at the Enchantment a few years ago and loved it. The setting in Boynton Canyon is incredible. I really liked being a few miles out of the center of town. There's great hiking right around the resort, and you can also rent bikes there. There also used to be a person that came down on weekend nights from the observatory in Flagstaff with a huge telescope for stargazing ... that was really cool. We now get a regular postcard from the Enchantment Resort promoting various specials and everytime I look at the picture of the resort set in the canyon, I long to go back!
