Secret food bargins in Las Vegas?
 

In replying to another post, it got me to thinking about the "unwritten" food specials in Las Vegas. I know at the Hard Rock in the 777 Club Restaurant, it is not on the menu, but if you ask, you get a nice steak & shrimp dinner for $7.77. Also, Ellis Island (2 blocks behind Bally's) has a $4.95 steak dinner that is usually very good. The California has $6.99 prime rib dinner and Terrible's has a great $4.99 chicken dinner.

Anyone else know of any other great food buys?

The price of the Ellis Island steak special has been increased to $6.95, but it now includes a choice of either a microwbrew or housemade root bear. On Thursdays at Ellis the Metro Pizza outlet offers 2/1 slices or whole pizzas. If your are over 50 and have an Ellis Slot card, you can get a $1 off coupon on Tuesday & Thursdays at the slot club that is good at either the restaurant or the BBQ.

The Hard Rock has an additional special, for $9.99 you can get all-you-can-eat prime rib at Mr. Lucky’s.

Hamada on Flamingo Avenue offers all you can eat deal that includes sushi, teriyaki, short ribs and tempura. The hours are 11PM-3AM 7 nights a week and only costs $19.95.

At the California's Redwood Bar & Grill you can get the Porterhouse special for $17.99 that includes soup, starch, vegetable of the day and dessert.

The Fiesta-Henderson has $1.49 breakfast special M-F that includes 2 eggs, bacon, hashbrowns and toast.

The Monterrey Coffee shop @ the Gold Coast has as 16-ounce T-bone that comes with five sides (salad, vegetable, potato, onion rings, and baked beans) and a glass of beer for $10.95. It's available 24 hours a day, but you have to be 21 to order it.

The Crown & Anchor Pub, 2 locations, offers an excellent video poker lunch comp. Available 8AM-2PM In exchange for a $20 video poker buy-in you get a beer and anything on the menu, including traditional English meat pies, bangers & mash, or just a sandwich or burger.

I read in a newspaper there that locals don't cook as much as they go out (it's just cheaper to go out to eat). Ask some locals (I'm assuming they'll be working the hotel desks) and I'm sure you'll be able to find something.

I don't know about food specials, per se, but I know about restaurants that aren't listed in your average guide book. Some of my favorite places:

1. India Palace, 505 E Twain Ave

2. Thai BBQ, 1424 S 3rd St - this location is better than the other locations. The woman who runs this place prepares the dishes differently and BETTER than the other ones (however, they're all owned by the same family).

3. McMullans Irish Pub, 4650 W Tropicana Ave - Irish Nachos. That's all I have to say.

4. Weiss Deli, 2744 N Green Valley Pkwy, Henderson - Huge portions, nice mom and pop feel.

Deep fried oreos and deep fried twinkies at the Mermaid Casino on Fremont Street--downtown. I first saw them featured on a Travel Channel special years ago then later with Anthony Bourdain on his show. It became my quest to try one of these treats--finally had one of each (or at least a bite) this past February. At 99 cents apiece, a true bargain!!

Ok, the Peppermill on the strip is pretty cheap and fantastic with great decor. Somewhere in the $12 to $15 range for a big meal. Hash House a Go Go is off the strip with incredible food and monstrous portions. You will hear people saying "holly crap" everytime they get there food because its so huge. Slots of fun infront of Circus Circus has a full 1lbs hotdog for $1.50. Its pretty good if you make sure you get a hot one. The BBQ at Ellis Island is great and dirt cheap.
