Second Post
Got the hotel, Crowne Plaza, 13 West 45th Street. WOW, $400.00. OK, but for the once in a lifetime event...it's ok. So, are we close enough? Short walk? Any, any advice, (except watch TV) would so be appreciated. Check in at 3:00 pm, any suggestions for dinner, $$$ is in moderate to upper moderate spending range since 2006 will be "our year of positive changes" so I'd love suggestions. However, we must get our "viewing seats" at the right time. Thanks all, and a very Happy New Year

OK - you are new here and there is a bit of a learning curve about how to post, etc. But, honestly, how would anyone possibly know that "<i>Second Post</i>" means you are asking about a hotel in NYC and dinner on (I think) New Years Eve????
re-post w/ a title that means something and you'll get a lot of good info . . . . |

You are definately paying for the location here. The hotel is average - I use the New York Sports Club there sometimes - and am never really impressed with the lobby and restaurants compared to what else the city has to offer. Though i must admit I have never seen a room.
There are a large number of conference rooms where unions hold their board meetings, CPE holds classes, etc. A lot of airlines house their flight attendants and pilots there overnight. You are around the corner from restaurant row, with a lot of ethnic, delicious cuisine. Be prepared for tight security, particularly on NYE - you will need your room key to get anywhere near the hotel or inside the lobby. |
You won't be able to have dinner on NYE if you intend on standing outside to watch the ball drop. You'll have to be there in place before dinner time.
There are some restaurants/hotels in that would have a view of the ball. If you scroll down the page on the answer I gave you on your other post, there's more info but here's the list Renaissance New York DoubleTree Guest Suites Marriott Marquis TGI Fridays Bubba Gump Sbarro Pizza Olive Garden Foley's Fish House |
If you wait much longer to get in a corral on NYE than 3PM, you may find yourself as far away as Central Park trying to watch the ball drop.
Forget dinner, no time. Don't drink anything. You can't leave and come back to pee. I hope this isn't sounding bad but note you've been forwarned that this isn't a pleasant experience. Dress warm. |
