321go~ Yup although I am not native I have been here long enough to take on many quirky characteristics of a true born & bred Seattle-ite.

Note to self:

* Do not ask a query relating to Seattle weather again.

* Do not report on other people's perceptions of Seattle's weather.

Why are you saying that now? You asked and we tried to help as best as we could. All the way start to finish of this thread.

Rather you might make a note to yourself to accept how locals perceive their own weather, what they have to say about it, rather than insist on putting your own value judgements onto it.

Cheers for the New Year,
seriously ;-) suze

You may want to add: thank people for answering your questions.

Even though you just seem to want to push buttons and accuse people of lying, people did take the time to reply and you didn't even bother to thank any of them for that.

Good point, WhereAreWe. The OP just seems to want to argue with Suze.

So his friend happened to visit during the worst weather event we have had since 1990. If he lets the possibility of cold weather deter him from moving here with his true love, I'd say he's a wuss!!!

Our college-age daughter brought her boyfriend up for a visit during the same time---he's a Californian and had never seen snow. We loaned him jackets, gloves, etc. and we all went outside and had a great time. He loved it.

If life hands you snow, make snowmen. . . .

This is not the first time he's done this to me. He has a strange fascination with the temperature at which I keep my apartment. It's pretty funny really.

Strange indeed.

So here's to a Happy New Year in our nice warm (and now snow-free) Seattle homes!

enzian,

I think there's a difference between a 20 something college kid going to Seattle and making snowmen with his girlfriend that he'll probably dump in a few months anyway and an almost 40 something man who has met his (slightly younger) female potential life mate and they are deciding on where to live.

I'm sure that "making snowmen" is not on the top of his priority list. A more pressing concern would be "How long would I have to spend in the morning getting snow/ice off my car if I lived here and this rare, but 3 week long event occurred again?"

Well most people park their cars in a garage therefore scraping of snow or ice is a non-issue.

But yes I guess 18 years from now when the next record-breaking storm blows thru that IS an important consideration if he parks his car outdoors. And certainly should be a deciding factor for where this couple chooses to live.

He may need to scrape at work (unless he has covered parking there as well), at the grocery store, etc... even if he has a garage.

Okay, I promise I will stop feeding the fire now

WhereAreWe,

It is true that you did answer the original question posed without much vitriol (until now). What's with calling me a name? I never resorted to name calling for anyone, yet both me and my friend were called names, and he's not even here to defend himself.

I never once called anyone any names (except for calling suze a hardy gal and that is really a complement in disguise).

Ok, thank you azzure, beanweb62, Gardyloo, islethebelle, and rosetravels. I believe those five never once bashed me. They just gave straight up informational yet interesting answers.

There, I said thanks. I would have thanked you for your original informational post on the weather, but then you go around and call me names so whatever thanks I may have had, you just burned that.

"What's with calling me a name?"

Do you dispute that you're ungrateful? It took 13 days to thank anyone, and then only because I 'forced the issue'. Even then you pointedly ignored some people because you didn't like their responses - the irony of *you* not liking some of their attitudes is through the roof.

Seems to me you started this thread not for info, but to troll around and stir things up. That, combined with your antagonistic and ungrateful attitude led to my recent responses. I can't stand people like that.

Am I supposed to be sad that I burned up my thanks? I'm practically weeping.

wow now my feelings are really hurt i think i have shown incredible patience on this thread but now am left off of the incredibly short thank you list.

when did I "bash" you?

You ASKED "what's with the weather in Seattle?" and we all told you (over and over again) but you don't want to hear it or believe what those of us who LIVE here have to say. enough already.

WhereAreWe~ Thank you very much for your kinds words of support and understanding what my intent and what I have posted on this thread. I really do appreciate it.

Personally I am thankful that bkluvsNola won't be moving to the Seattle area anytime soon. We can count our blessings for that, I guess.

bkluvsNola~ Even in this recent huge storm over the past two weeks I have never once had to scrape my car at work or at the grocery store because once the snow came none of us could drive!!! I got around by Metro bus or on foot.

Ever hear the saying?...

"when you're in a hole, stop digging"
