Seattle,WA to Vancouver,BC
Planning to make a trip from Seattle to Vancouver from 1/1/17 to 1/4/17.
Going to take the Amtrak train in to Vancouver but not sure what to do about the return leg. We don't want to get in late (arrive before dinner prefefrred) and preferably don't want to leave that early for the train. So our only option therefore would be the bus - Amtrak vs Bolt. Anybody have a preference? Could you guys also address these concerns please: Traffic I'm hearing winter mudslides might be something to think about? (although i'll just be thrown on a bus) Comfort on train vs bus. Do the seats recline? If traffic or travel time is absurd, then I guess I would just go waking up early and taking train. Thank you |
The 510 Amtrak Cascades leaves at 7:45AM. The seats on the Talgo train are more comfortable for a 4 hour ride.
The 8948 bus leaves at 10:45AM. There is one bathroom on the bus. The train has several. The train also has food available for purchase. |
The bus is not comfortable, but it travels at reasonable times. Only the train is affected by mudslides. Traffic shouldn't be a problem except at the border if you're in a car.

Unless they use a different model vehicle of the Bolt bus on that trajectory, I'd have to say that the Bolt bus is quite comfortable if it's anything like what runs between Manhattan and Boston.
It's not a long ride from Vancouver to Seattle, and the seats on my rides were fine. The 9949 leaves at 11:30 and gets into Seattle at 15:30. The next one is the 9975 that leaves at 17:00 and gets in at 21:00, so unless your friends are Spaniards, that's past dinner time. |
Rent a car... Drive yourself...

Before you rent a car, be sure to know how much the one-way drop-off charge will be, and be sure the company even allows the cross-border drop-off.
|
Some border cities like Buffalo/Toronto and Seattle/Vancouver allow cross border drop off at no extra charge due to the high demand... Just ask...

thanks everyone!
decided to try the bolt. hopefully it works out! |
Logical choice.
