Seattle - Victoria - Vancouver

My wife, our 4 boys and I are planning to go to Seattle, Victoria and Vancouver in September. We have 8 days for the 3 places and are trying to figure out how to divide the time (the original plan is 4 nights in Seattle, 1 night in Victoria and 3 nights in Vancouver). We wonder if going to Victoria for just 1 night is worth the travel time by ferry. And we are not sure about spending 4 nights in Seattle and 3 in Vancouver or the other way around. Any suggestions will be appreciated, since we will be traveling from Central America.

Suggestion is 2 nights in Seattle-plenty of time to see the city and surroundings, 2 nights on one of the San Juan Islands (Friday Harbor is a good choice, but there are others), 2 nights in Victoria-beatiful, relaxed city with friendly drivers-great natural history museum with lots of Totem Poles and very well done history of the local people-great for kids as well as adults. Worth taking a tour bus ride to Buchart Gardens. 2 nights in Vancouver-big city similar to Seattle-lots of road construction when we were there. The hotel recommended a tour company that was very good-we took a city and area tour that went all the way to Whistler and stopped at a waterfall and rainforest along the way.
