Seattle-Vancouver Lunch Stop
We are looking for suggestions for a town/restaurant to have a rather quick lunch between Seattle and Vancouver. Would like something that is not a fast food, which would be easy-off, easy-on the highway.
Thanks in advance. |
Which Vancouver, WA or BC? If BC, then stop in Mt. Vernon and if WA stop in Centralia. In Mt. Vernon the Skagit Brewery is good, and in Centralia the McMenamins.

I would not recommend McMenamins for a quick lunch. Went there a while back with my sister & aunt who was visiting from out of town. We were seated & waited at least 15 minutes to get a menu. Waited at least 20 minutes to get our order taken. Waited at least 30 minutes for our food - never got it, walked out because we were starving! Went to the diner across the street & got our food within 15 minutes of being seated.

Serendipity42--Wow, that is totally different from our experience. That is too bad. Where did you go? I have heard there is a good mexican place in town, but I don't remember the name of it. Course this is always Subway too, lol, which we have stopped at too many times to count.
|
serendipity42, that is the reason that we go for fast food when we are enroute (not stopping for the night). Waiting to be seated, waiting to place an order, waiting for the food, waiting for the server to present the bill, waiting for the server to pick up the bill and/or taking it to the cashier just eats up valuable time.

Thanks for the suggestion. Sorry, I meant Vancouver, BC.
Looking for a pub-type place - Skagit Brewery sounds like that - or maybe a diner-type place. Not much into fast food although Subway is ok. |
I thought you probably meant BC, but one never knows:) Sounds like Skagit Brewery is what you are looking for.

We stopped at a Bobs Burgers and Brew on the way back to Seattle from Vancouver B.C.. It's a sit-down restaurant in a new strip mall just off 5. We were pretty happy with it. Decent food and pretty quick. I think it was the 1st one on the locations list.

Ok that's good to know about Bob's, I saw that when I stopped for a milkshake at Jack in the Box at exit 232 north of Mt Vernon on a recent trip to Vancouver and wondered if it was any good!

mms - I can't remember the name of the diner we ate at, but it was across the street on either the same block or one down from McMenamins. I don't even remember what I ordered, might have been the french dip. I do remember my aunt ordered the best onion rings I've had in a long time!

Serendipity--Thanks, I will keep that in mind for our next stop, which will be in about a week. Always nice to know where good places are, especially in towns like that where there don't appear to be a whole lot. Have you stayed at that McMenamins? We did last fall and DD said she felt like we were thrown back in time (in a good way), lol!

The Bob's B & B beside the 1-5 at Exit 270 is relatively new. It's about 5 miles south of Can/US border at Birch Bay Square (former factory outlet site) Have had great burgers and good service. Another option there is the just opened Market at B B Square, has lots of food/deli items, made to order subs, salad bar, a small patio seating area. BB Square also has a Woods Coffee Drive-Through and a Jack In The Box.

If you like Thai, I can recommend Thai House Restaurant, 187 Telegraph Road, which is a very quick and easy off and back on.
It is located on the west side of I-5. Take exit 256 A-B, merge into Meridian Street, and take an immediate right at Telegraph Road. Thai House is a simple store front restaurant serving good Thai food |
