Seattle-Vancouver
I need help planning this trip. I will be arriving in Seattle on May 25 and leaving Seattle on June 2. My plans are to see Vancouver-Victoria and Seattle. I am not certain of the best way to go to Vancouver and Victoria. I was thinking of driving to Vancouver from Seattle the day I arrive-staying in Vancouver until Tuesday morning & go to Victoria at this time. if possible go by ferry to Seattle.
Any thoughts or advice on sights to see would be greatly appreciated. Thanks |
Make sure you have a valid passport.
Since you are interested in the cities, public transportation may make more sense than renting a car. From or to Victoria will be by ferry anyway. |
The Victoria Clipper is the passenger-only ferry connecting Seattle and Victoria.
Are you flying into Seattle? Do you really want to make the 3-4hr drive on the freeway right off a flight? |
Does it cost much more to fly to Vancouver?
If you do fly to Seattle, take the train or Amtrak bus from Seattle to Vancouver and use public transportation. The place you might need a rental car would be for anything outside Victoria, BC after you get off the passenger ferry. |
Yu can take a city bus from the ferry in Sydney to downtown Victoria- it was kind of circuitous route but worked fine for me. If you are just going to hang out in downtown Victoria you don;t need a car.
A fun way to get from Seattle to Victoria is a float plane- lands in the inner harbor in Victoria and departs from Lake Union in Seattle. Look for web specials- sometimes can find a good deal. Kenmare Air is the airlines |
Thank you all for your help. I already booked my airfare and will be going in and out of Seattle. The float plane sounds very interesting. Will definitely look into it.

If you decide you want to rent a car in Seattle or Vancouver and leave it at the other location, it's pretty inexpensive there. Many, many people do it during cruising season and they keep it very reasonable. There isn't a problem crossing the border with it either. We rented from Avis near the Vancouver cruise terminal and dropped at Sea Tac airport. Very easy.

Thanks Connie-another option for me to consider. Glad that it wasn't a problem to rent in one place and return in another.
