Seattle trip

Will be going to Seattle early June. What are good side trips? Should we stay downtown? Hotels? Must Sees?

How long will you be here? Will you have a car or be using public transportation? What kind of hotel do you like, and what price range?

It depends on what you want to see and do if downtown is the best spot to stay or if you'd prefer to base yourselves outside the city. Also on your budget (downtown hotels are not cheap).

Must Sees:
Pioneer Square historic district
new Seattle Public library
Chinatown
Pike Place Market
a ferry ride
Seattle Center

Hotels:
Mayflower Park Hotel
Grand Hyatt
Inn at the Market
Alexis
Fairmont Olympic
Hotel Andra
Hotel Max
Sherton
Westin

Rather than repeat that which has been covered exhaustively on other threads, here's a source produced by a regular on flyertalk.com which might be of use...

Yes, stay down town. Here are some things you might do:

• Go to a baseball game.
• See a play or take a harbor cruise: discount tickets are often available at the ticket office located in the Pike Place Market at 1st Avenue and Pike Street.
• Take a ferry ride to Bainbridge Island for views of the skyline and, on a clear day, the mountains.
• Check out our new library; it has been praised for its forward-looking architecture.
• Visit our very good zoo at Woodland Park.
• Go to Mt. Rainier--the most popular day trip from Seattle.
• If you rent a car you could explore Alki Beach (West Seattle), the western shore of Lake Washington, the view from Kerry Park on Highland Drive (Queen Anne Hill), Magnolia Bluff, the locks, Shilshoe Bay and Golden Gardens Park, Green Lake (for our most popular three-mile walk), or Woodinville, north of town, if you are interested in wineries.

Thanks all. We will be there from June 8 thru 13. We will have a car. Might like to go to Whidby Island and Victoria. Moderate price hotels. Three adults.

I like the Captain Whidbey Inn for a place to stay in Whidbey Island.
