yes we will be renting, im not interested in buying anything right now, especially with my husbands job that could result in relocation at any given point. the market is terrible right now and im not interested in buying then waiting a long time to sell. i know that seattle is one of the more pricey markets. i have looked at craigslist but i would really have to see the place before cause it could turn out to be disappointing. thanks again!

Will you be able to come look at place before you move here? If not, you might want to rent for a month at the beginning, like at a long-stay motel(?) so you can do your apartment hunting in person. If you stick with looking in Belltown and Capitol Hill, that will help narrow down your search efforts. Also in your situation using an agent might be worth the fees.

Knowing you may not stay in Seattle (moving on to Chicago), I would definitely not bother thinking about real estate, that's smart.

Suze, I think she said she would be here this weekend..that's why I clued her in to the Folklife Festival. Maybe sho got a copy of the Sunday Times.

Oh good. It wouldn't take long, especially if they have a car, to see the few areas they are considering. To get a general sense of things, then they could continue their search online much easier.

I live on the border of Capitol/First Hill (2 blocks from Swedish Hospital) and 2 bedroom apartments in my building go for $1000 a month.

Another nice thing about living in Capitol Hill is it is a 15 minute walk to downtown. And as Bobmrg said, the 150 bus runs frequently from Seattle to Kent.

Tom

Of subject, are any of you interested in maybe having a Seattle GTG?

Sorry, tht should be 'off subject'

yes we were there this weekend and checked out the fest it was nice. we ate at a really cool restaurant on lake union and another greek place downtown. love the good food! WEather was nice too.
we will be able to come again for a weekend or something to check out places to live. I did take a newspaper and thats where I found the belltown location for cheap.
I plan on narrowing down a few apts or condos that i would like to see then come on a weekend to check them out. we figured that the final goal is to get to chicago so we would probably like to live downtown or close to downtown! LIVE IT UP! ha ha
anyways, the city is pretty cool and it seems to offer a lot. thanks again for all the advice! hope you will be able to organize a GTG!

Glad you enjoyed your visit to this wonderful town and wish you well in your search for housing that meets your needs. As for going back to Chicago....as I mentioned before, I grew up in Gary, and wild horses, etc etc.
