Seattle to Bellingham

We are thinking about taking the ferry out of Bellingham to Alaska. We'd fly into Seattle. What mode of transportation would you recommend to take to get to Bellingham? How long of a trip is it?

Roz....check www.airporter.com...this is shuttle service from Sea-Tac airport to Bellingham...and the terminal. Another possibility is to take a commuter flight to Bellingham. Horizon Air...part of Alaska Air.

Rus/Arlington Washington(Between Seattle and Bellingham)

FYI, the flights between SEA-BLI (Bellingham) are horrendously overpriced, due to lack of competition. Much cheaper by far to rent a car and drive yourself up; about 1-1/2 hrs. from Seatac to the ferry terminal, unless you hit a bad day for traffic, which is common in Seattle; usually you break out of it about Marysville (approx. 1 hour south of Bellingham).

The Airporter might work for you but they used to have times that were quite inconvenient and stopped too many times along the way for our liking. They are also overpriced, in our opinion.

Have fun!

Another low-cost option would be to take the Quick Shuttle bus (http://www.quickcoach.com/schedule.htm) from Sea-Tac Airport to Bellingham Airport. From there, it is not too far by taxi. It's 2hours, 10 minutes from airport to airport, plus another 20-30 minutes from B'ham airport to the ferry terminal.

We flew to Seattle last year to attend a wedding in Bellingham. It was about the same price to rent a car as it was for the shuttle for 3 of us. If it's just the 2 of you, then try the shuttle. Driving it took us about 1 1/2 hours. Can't remember the route, but we got off the highway about halfway there, and went west, and drove up the coast. It was a lovely drive. (Of course probably nothing compared to what you'll see on your way to Alaska!) Have a great time.

Roz...All the posts seem to be correct...just depends on what fits you best....Alf is correct....Quick Coach is the most direct and timely. The traffic in Seattle is ugly going north from about 3pm. to 7pm. Otherwise easy drive up I-5 to Bellingham. The side trip that Lisa mentioned ("went west") was probabley the road (Hiway 11) from Mount Vernon to Bellingham....called Chucknut Dr....and it is wonderful..plus if you wanted to stop for fresh seafood....several resturants along Chucknut Dr. Have never made the flight between Seattle and Bellingham...but never any bargains on the short commuters.......I guess we could recommend the train too...but that can be a hassle, but if you want....we will help you with that too...Have a good trip..(Bellingham is a pretty city too)
