Seattle suggestions for Mrs Kal.

The lovely Mrs Kal and her beautiful sisters are planning a long b'day week in Seattle in August and needs your kind help.;;)

We may try Pricelining it but a client rec'd The Hotel Max to her.

They are also hoping to do some nice runs, kayack, bike, some shopping and dining...and maybe a few cocktails or two.
Suggestions on a special birthday restaurants?
Bike/kayack rentals or running paths?

Any recs for an excellent day spa in the down town area?

Looks like they will just miss the Mariners, Seahawks Pre Season, and the Storm.
Nightlife suggestions for 40+-rs+something ladies who are going on 30?

It's my understanding if they stay local no rental car needed since public transportation and taxis available.?

I'm starting my research but any suggestions from our kind NW FFFs?

Have them look at the Mayflower Park Hotel. We have stayed there twice, and once was a girls trip. They have rooms with 2 full bathrooms, and with women that can't be beat;) Very nice hotel, excellent location, and walkable to most tourist sights and the heart of shopping. I got an email from them recently about a new promotion. It looked like a good deal, so have them check out the website.

I have done the Seattle Marathon almost every year (half as well as whole), and the route is really nice. Have them check the website and they can pick parts of that to run. I really like the area along Lake Washington.

I really enjoy the Nordstrom Spa.

Too bad you aren't joining them. I would make the trip back up there just for that:)

Who knows, we might even have our doggie GTG while she's in town and that would guarentee a really great trip.

What kind of food do they like? Would help with giving suggestions.

Hotel Max is a good suggestions. It's an old hotel that was recently renamed (formerly the Vance) and remodeled. It's a good location. That or The Mayflower Park Hotel are both fine suggestions.

Special birthday restaurant - I love the Dahlia Lounge on 4th.

Running path, Burke Gilman trail, Greenlake, along Lake Washington in Madrona and Leshi (all reachable by Metro bus).

I know you can rent canoes somewhere over behind the University, I see them on the lake all the time... anyone know the details for these?

Nordstrom day spa gets constantly good comments.

Or Spa de Lago, which is not downtown, rather in Madison Park. They can reach it at the end of the #11 bus line. It's a lovely little "village" of shops and restaurants and Spa de Lago offers pedi, facial, massage, etc. Would be a fun outting from downtown (approx. 15 mins by taxi or 30 mins by bus I'd guess).

I meant to say, I know how Mrs. Kal loves sausage. Jeezus H...

Space Needle still worth the trip up?
Mrs Kal's and sis #3's first trip to Seattle so they will be playing tourist. And they will def stop at Pikes.

I'm peeking at citysearch as we type...Mrs Kal is off for some Sierra Club 5k run this a.m.

suze: I'm not certain of this, but I believe those canoes belong to the University and only students, faculty and others affiliated with the U are allowed to take those canoes out.

et, you know Mrs Kal...think that would stop her? ;)

Anyone can rent the canoes. We did once and it is a lot of fun.

For kayak rentals near the University, head to Agua Verde Cafe &amp; Paddle Club.

After kayaking, grab a bite to eat at the Cafe. The margaritas are great, and the food is very good too!

For sushi downtown-
Wann's or Saito's, both on 2nd Ave at cross-street w/ Lenora

BTW, the Pink Door, especially the patio on a nice evening, is good. Great lasagna there.

Oh...and for cocktails for 40-somethings going on 30-something, I suggest the Triple Door.

Kal: maybe Mrs Kal can try the Tillicum Village Indian Salmon Bake.

It's a great experience.

I went there - oh I'm not going to tell you how many years ago or how many boyfriends ago - but the salmon was gorgeous and, even though they didn't serve limoncello, my boyfriend was gorgeous too. :)

For the salmon bake, they go to a little island - well, you should go too Kal!

Priceline hotels - there's a three star in Bellevue across the Lake, great hotel. They can leave the car at the hotel and take public transportation downtown. Nice quiet area to stay - Microsoft country, tho.

Also if they are going up as far as Seattle, they COULD take a side trip to Vancouver. Tell her to remember her passport. Vancouver is my second favorite West Coast city after San Francisco.

Good suggestion for Tillicum
Village. It is the standard 4th grade field trip there and parents all beg to chaperone that trip.

The Max is a very cool hotel with a good location but many of the rooms are *tiny* with even smaller bathrooms, so they should definitely ask about the square footage of the room they are thinking of booking. If they can get one of the rooms with 2 bathrooms at the Mayflower Park as suggested, I think that would be great.

I second the recommendation of the Dahlia Lounge--I've celebrated a number of birthdays there.

Teatro Zinzanni could also be a lot of fun. In addition to the Triple Door previously mentioned, I also really enjoy going to hear music at Jazz Alley.
