Seattle Restaurants?
 

My daughter recently moved to Seattle in June. She and her husband are finally settled (the housing market was BRUTAL) and are now looking for dining recommendations. They mostly eat vegetarian, but dairy, eggs and some fish stock are okay. Like all types of places, Indian, Asian, etc.

Do you have any favorites? Any part of the city, but especially if you have some good ones near the Columbia City area.

(Also, do you know of any civil engineering job openings with a small firm that does "interesting" things?
She's done a lot of structural glass work, alsogreen design, but is hoping to expand her skills).

Have them check out the Ballard neighborhood. Loads of great restaurants, bars, breweries, etc. Our DD has lived there for a couple years, so we head into the city from our place to visit her quite a bit;) We never tire of all the neighborhood has to offer.

Columbia City is an up and coming hip part of the city. There should be some good restaurants there. It's not near where live, so I've only read reviews. If they aren't already members, I suggest they join OpenTable.com Which will allow them to search in their area, as well as offering reviews by people who have actually eaten at the various places (and they will earn points toward dining certificates).

Elliot's Ouster House, Pier 56. Go for oyster happy hour 3-6 pm.

Columbia City is becoming a major foodie destination. In no particular order, and can't speak to vegetarian options, but worth looking:

Geraldine's Counter: Fab breakfasts (served all day) and comfort-ish food. http://geraldinescounter.com/

And that's just a start, there are <i>many</i> more.

I'm not sure I have any recommendations for Columbia City itself, but I have a couple that are close: There's a great Neapolitan pizza place a little south of Columbia City called Pizza Pulcinella, and Renton has a great Indian place called Naan N Curry.

A little farther away: My favorite Afghan food just re-opened in Bellevue - they're just called Afghan Cuisine. And the best Thai food in town is Bai Tong - they have a location in Southcenter and one in Bellevue.

They are happy to have these recommendations, are would welcome more. They are willing to travel, especially as her husband works right downtown.

(DD asked if I'd found her a job yet...I told her that would really be a miracle, but at least I asked!!)

Have you eaten at Cafe Flora recently. Suze? Has it got better again? It used to be a favorite place to meet friends for lunch. The last few times I was there, it had really gone down hill. I no longer recommend it. There are a number of vegetarian restaurants in Seattle, but virtually everywhere will offer vegetarian options (maybe except for streak houses).

Plum Bistro is vegan. Unfortunately the couple of times we ate there were pretty awful. I've done better, generally, ordering vegetarian food at regular restaurants.

There are hundreds of Thai restaurants in Seattle (a count done a few years ago listed over 400 Thai restaurants in the city)

They might also look at restaurants in West Seattle. Blackboard Bistro is excellent.

For specifically vegetarian place, they might want to search Happy Cow website.

Better take Kathie's advice. It's been a few years since I've been at Cafe Flora and never at Plum Bistro. Thanks for posting.

OK How about Wild Ginger, downtown on 3rd? They have excellent food, nice atmosphere, and a vegan menu in addition to the regular one.

Yes, Wild Ginger is a good recommendation. A number of places have vegetarian tasting menus, like Tilth in Wallingford.
