seattle resaurant advice!
My husband and I are looking forward to our visit to Seattle in August. We haven't been there in over 8 years, and would like to try some restaurants serving fresh, local fare. We have reservations at Canlis and Steelhead, and would like to add some others to our "must try" list! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. We are staying downtown and can take a taxi/ferry anywhere.

...I meant seattle "restaurant" advice!
|
A few of my favorites, in no particular order and definitely not a complete list:
Matt's in the Market The deck at Pink Door Boat Street Cafe Cafe Campagne Dahlia Lounge (or any of the Tom Douglas restaurants for that matter) Zoe |
thanks, i appreciate your input! I will look up the menus to your suggestions~
|
hmmm. I thought I just answered this, but I guess you posted twice. Do check your other posting.
|
yes, i double posted by mistake. =....didnt know how to relist original post! sorry.

Anthony's Pier 66 & Bell Street Diner
Etta's Seafood or Dahlia Lounge Ponti's in Fremond Ray's Boathouse at Shilshole Chandler's on Lake Union Serafina on Eastlake |
Dahlia is good, the Six Seven at the Edgewater Hotel is also very good. Have fun! ***kim*** ((f))

dharnold: If you 'click' on your author name written in blue text, it will pull up a list to the left of only the threads you started or contribued to.
:-) p.s. Welcome to Seattle! |
Another suggestion: Portage in Queen Ann. Small local place (reservations highly recommended!) with superlative food, a good wine list and fine service.

Downtown, we enjoyed casual Lola's for lunch, AND as mentioned above, any of Tom Douglas' other restaurants...Dahlia Lounge, Etta's....
|
Just a thought. Usually when one chef spreads himself too thin, people turn on him and avoid his places. It is sure to his credit that Tom Douglas seems to get raves over and over for all of his restaurants -- Etta's, Lola, Dahlia Lounge -- are there others?
|
Yes... Palace Kitchen, also Serious Pie and Dahlia Bakery (on either side of Dahlia Lounge).

Just got back. We had our best meal at Flying Fish on First Avenue - a Tom Douglas restaurant. Excellent food. Also had a terrific meal at Ettas but the service left a bit to be desired. We met a friends' daughter who took us to Kabul, an Afghan restaurant not far from Fremont neighborhood - we loved it and was by far the most economical meal we had. We did go to Palace Kitchen but nothing on the menu that night was too appealing to us. We had a light dinner at Steelhead - great food - we wanted something with crab so they made us a crab cake sandwich - it was excellent but pricy - $19

Flying Fish is a Tom Douglas restaurant? When did that happen? Did he buy it?
|
Thanks for the report--but Flying Fish is not part of the Tom Douglas empire. The chef/owner there is Christine Keff.
Etta's is one of Tom Douglas's places however and usually great service is one of the cornerstones of the Tom Douglas experience so I'm sorry to hear that wasn't the case when you visited. |
Well I don't care who said it, how they said it, or why they said it... but Flying Fish is most certainly NOT a Tom Douglas restaurant. Never has been, never will be.

(Thank you, editors.)
dharnold, I suppose your trip is either over and will be soon. I hope you report back what you chose and tell us how it was. I know there were two of these Seattle threads going at once. |
I stand corrected - sorry! A friend who had just visited Seattle had told me that and I assumed it was true. Anyway the food was very good and I would recommend it

No problem Pam.
Tom Douglas restaurants are only: Etta's, Lola's, Palace Kitchen, Serious Pie, Dahlia Lounge & Dahlia Bakery, plus a private catered dining room at their main office in Belltown. |
