Seattle:Oct or Mar

When would be the best time to visit the Seattle area? We are in our 50"s and will be visiting for the first time. We are active and like to pack our days with sites and fun.

John Jul 15th, 2002 06:49 AM

October.

a second vote for Oct. March is generally windy and wet!

Susan Jul 15th, 2002 09:12 AM

So, are you saying October is not wet?

We also would like to visit Seattle in late September 9/28/02-10/6/02.

Will be be able to see Whales or will they have already migrated south?

Thanks

Sally Jul 15th, 2002 09:23 AM

October. Septenber would actually be better if you could arrange it. It's our best month !

John Jul 15th, 2002 09:55 AM

Susan, the only whales usually seen around Puget Sound are orcas, which don't migrate as far as the larger animals (which are offshore for the most part around here anyway, not in inland waters.) There are resident orca groups in the Puget Sound/BC inland waters area.

Early October is usually pretty nice - there may be some wet days but often it's sunny and warm by day, cool at night.

Thanks John.

I was in Seattle last October and although it rained most days, I thought the weather was great. The rain was more like a drizzle, not like a downpour. We traveled to Mt. Ranier and it was snowing at the observation point. It you want to go to Ranier or Mt. St. Helens, go on a clear day or it may be a wasted trip and the travel time is a few hours, several hours to see both. When we went we could see neither the top of Mt. Ranier or the crater at Mt. St. Helens because both were above the clouds. Be sure to go to Pike's Place Market. Seattle is a great place to visit.

Hi Lucille,
Another vote for October. We were there mid-October last year, and had only one rainy day. Warm days, cool nights, lots to see. Enjoy!

It certainly sounds like October will be the month to go. Thanks for the help.
