Seattle Ideas at Thanksgiving

I know, I know - it's the wrong time of year! But hopefully I won't be totally miserable? Any suggestions while I'm there? I'm staying at the Mayflower Park Hotel, is that good or should I spend the extra for the Inn at Marketplace or Edgewater? Sounds like driving is next to impossible but we do have a car and it cost 21.00 a day to park it at our hotel! Crazy!!

You'll be fine at the Mayflower. If you want to switch, have a look at www.biddingfortravel.com for Priceline.com guidelines - 4 star hotels downtown (Hyatt, Sheraton, Westin etc.) are going for $40-$60, which probably would erase the parking differential.

The extended forecast for next week is cloudy but mainly dry, with some sun, so I don't think you'll be miserable because of the weather. Shopping crowds, maybe, but it's like that everywhere. Driving in Seattle is really not that bad, just the freeways at rush hour, same as any big city.

As far as excursions go, the ferries are always trusty, and there's an immense volume of water going over Snoqualmie Falls at present - really awesome. You might also consider taking in the current exhibit at the Seattle Art Museum - Frida Kahlo and the Mexican modernists, then go see the film "Frida" - unusual opportunity.
Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend is the Seattle Marathon...the Westin is already full for Saturday night. Also, some roads will be closed Sunday morning for the event, so just keep that in mind. Other than that Seattle is wonderful this time of year. Enjoy!

Thanks for the info about Mayflower and you definitely made my decision about the Falls! I've been kind of iffy!

And great info about the marathon! I'll plan my escape Sunday!

For a weather update, it's now expected to be sunny and chilly through the weekend, with a fair amount of fog (of course, just when nobody wants to fly anywhere) and haze due to an inversion layer. Don't know if there's yet been an impact on the falls, but presumably the volume will be less now that it's not raining in the hills. Still worth a drive, though.

If you do not escape early enough, you can always cheer us on, LOL!
