Seattle Hotels

You might wish to try the Pacific Plaza hotel (800/426-1165). Built in 1929 and refurbished in 1992, the hotel reflects its original character. The rooms and furnishings, reminiscent of the '20s and '30s, are appropriate for singles or couples but are too small to comfortably accommodate a family. Because of its downtown location and modest rates (which include a Continental breakfast), the Plaza is a good choice for anyone who is not seeking contemporary luxury. Have a great time!

Just remember that the Pacific Plaza Hotel is located near the financial district of downtown Seattle so it can be a bit creepy at night (esp. on the weekends). Their parking garage is also a block or so away from the hotel and it can be a dark walk in winter. Admittedly, rates are good.

Try the WestCoast Vance Hotel nearer to the shopping areas. Rates and room size should be comparable and it also was built in the 1920's and has been renovated (mahogany, marble, and floral-very cute). Rooms are lighter and location better for tourists. Service can be questionable sometimes, but especially in Winter it is worth the money (cheap!).

Both of the previous responses are good suggestions. Also, you might try one of the two Best Westerns near the Seattle Center; Best Western Executive Inn, and the Best Western Loyal Inn. These hotels are near the Belltown district north of the Seattle Downtown. Belltown offers many of Seattle's best restaurants. The Best Westerns are more like decent motor inns, while the Pacific Plaza and Vance are older but well kept traditional hotels. Have a great visit to my beloved hometown!

Just this last week-end my husband and I stayed at the Claremont in downtown Seattle. We found it to be very comfortable and safe. It's an older apartment-type hotel that is being re-done. The continental breakfast is average but there's a great deli across the street that serves waffles! Not too far away is an interesting tavern--The Two Bell Tavern--which serves great food. Unfortunately, it's smokey. Hope you enjoy your trip!

All three Westcoast hotels (Vance, Roosevelt and Camlin) are well-kept and inexpensive. the Vance rooms are very small, but clean and kept up. Camlin is across the street from the underground bus terminal (free, clean, safe....gets yy) Also, ask about rooms ending in 10 (I think) as they have windows on three sides with great view of skyline. Enjoy.
