Seattle hotel recommendation needed
 

I've been trying to plan a week in Seattle in June which I've visited many times. It seems like the hotel prices have gone up a LOT! I usually stay in a Marriott property but those are now $250 a night or more which stretches my budget over the line. I'd love some suggestions for hotels within walking distance of, say Pike Street Market: 1/2 mile max one way. I won't have a car and I can't do a ton of walking. I can use cabs, buses, etc but I like being downtown! Help??

Wow, $285 to $664 per night at Klimptons, that's more than the Marriotts!! Anything less than that?

AbbyAdams, if you try Priceline or Hotwire and limit your geographic area to downtown, it is fairly easy to narrow down which hotels you may get. Sheraton, Hilton, and Renaissance are frequently featured on both websites with 4 star ratings. You don't know the exact hotel, but you get a price break in exchange for a bit of a risk.

The Mediterranean Inn .. its is near the Key Arena, on a main bus line and you could walk to part of downtown.
rooms have a small fridge sink and microwave and the front desk will give you dishes too if you ask.. convenient if you want to eat in for breakfast as there is a big safeway supermarket practically across the street.

of course it doesn't have all the amenities of a Marriott, but it was far more reasonable and the neighborhood was fine.

Look at the Mayflower Park, the Homewood Suites on Pike, the Hotel 5 (former Ramada, now converted and much nicer than its prior self) and the Silver Cloud on Lake Union - not downtown but close to the Lake Union trolley that will take you there.

For a week's stay you might also look at Hotwire or Priceline.

Hotel prices during cruise season are jacked up to meet the demands from the boat people.

Like maxima we like the Mediterennean Inn in the Queen Anne neighborhood. It's next to Seattle Center, a short walk to Belltown and about a mile or so from Pike Street Market.(and has a nice roof-top deck too).

We've also had luck in the past bidding a room on Priceline. But, regardless of how you reserve your room, be sure to ask about parking fees if you are driving. Seattle hotels can have outrageous parking fees and they usually aren't included in room quotes.

Don't know the rate for the time you need, but I've got reasonable pries from the Sheraton, as good a location as the Marriott. It's my favorite hotel in Seattle, but we often get an apartment if we're in town for more than 2 days.

Thanks for the ideas, everyone. We decided to go to Stehekin instead, Seattle is just too expensive. Maybe next winter.....

You'll like Stehekin, but I'd make reservations at one of the B&Bs or ranches there if traveling in June.

We looked at a half dozen destinations, seattle rates price-wise along side Washington, D.C.!! We've been to Stehekin before and loved it. Part of the hotel price problem comes from cities who tack on $40-60 per night in taxes & fees. It's gotten insane ��

Yes I know Seattle hotel prices are high... like DC, or even San Francisco or New York City (we aren't far behind). If we weren't so popular they wouldn't be able to charge those rates ;-)

In order to pay for sports stadiums that host millionaire athletes and billionaire club owners, we imposed hefty taxes on hotel stays and rental cars. Cheers!

If it makes you feel any better the combined sales tax on everything (not food) is 9.5% here (we have no state income tax).

For inexpensive Seattle lodging I've been happy with the Moore Hotel. Three blocks from Pike Market, a hundred bucks per night, can't beat it. I've stayed there the past three years on either side of backpacking trips, when I've flown into Seattle.

My wife joins me after the backpack (she can't carry a heavy pack any more). She is completely satisfied with the Moore. Decent budget accommodations.

We both love visiting Seattle.
