Seattle downtown suites
 

Hi, We are planning to be in Seattle for 5 days in August. We would like to stay in the downtown area but prefer suites w/kitchen facilities. These are the ones I have come up with: Seattle Suites, Homewood suites by Hilton, Executive Extended Stay and Summerfield Suites. I would appreciate any opinions/suggestions on any of these hotels.<BR>Thanks <BR>

We stayed at Residence Inn Lake Union - which is just outside of downtown. Nice suites, pool, watch sea planes on Lake Union. Need to drive or catch a bus to downtown - it is a mile or so.

If your husband's conference is at the Convention Center, then the Summerfield Suites (next door, and on Pike) probably make the best sense. The Seattle Suites (which I frankly hadn't heard of until now) are also close by but in a converted apt. building that may or may not be of the same quality as the Summerfield. The Homewood is on Western Ave., a bit of a walk from the convention center or other conference hotels. I think you'd find the Executive Extended Stay place quite inconvenient for downtown activities.

As promised, wanted to let you know about our experience at Homewood Suites in Seattle. It is not quite in the downtown area but it's only a few (uphill) blocks from the Seattle Center (The Space Needle, etc.). It is one block from the waterfront (Elliott Bay). The rooms are very spacious and well equipped and the breakfast is great (better than any other Marriott's Residence Inns or Hampton Inns and Suites we've stayed in anywhere). Coffee/tea/hot chocolate available 24/7 as well as free laundry facilities. The hotel is relatively new and very clean and well kept. Would highly recommend it. We also drove around to see the Residence Inn on Lake Union - it's farther from town than the Homewood Suites and in my opinion not very convenient. If you don't mind the distance, you may also want to look at the Silver Cloud Inn - looks o.k. and is just down the road from the Residence Inn at Lake Union (for half the price). Good luck.

Griffie, Thanks for the response. If you don't mind, what was the rate/parking fee per night for the hotel?

The parking was $9 per day/tax. We noticed that there were spots on the streets but I really don't know how safe they are. The hotel parking is underground. Let me know what other info you may need.

Also how much did you pay for the hotel room?

We paid $89/night for a king suite which has one king size bed in a separate bedroom, and a full-size pull out sofa in the sitting area (kitchen and bathroom between the two areas). I think this type of room or one with two double beds could comfortably accommodate four adults. The rate of $89/night was the rate we got with the Seattle Visitor's Convention Bureau coupon (we originally booked under the special Spring into Homewood rate for $99 but I later found the coupon which expired 4/30/03 and called in to change the reservation - the new coupon's rate is for $99 for the cityside view $119 for the bayside view). Unless you plan to spend a lot of time in the room looking out the window I don't think it's worth paying the $20 for the view (it could be cloudy or rainy and you wouldn't see much of a view anyway).
