Seattle Doughnuts
We're planning a trip back home to Seattle, and I am craving junk food! We're taking the 10:30 ferry to Bainbridge Island and would like to grab a box of delicious sugary carbs on our way out of town. No grocery store doughnuts for me! Looking online I see recommendations for Mighty O in Wallingford and TopPot in Greenlake. We have a car so we can get to either one, or somewhere else if anyone has any other suggestions.
We're hoping to find the standards, an old fashioned, a maple bar, apple fritter etc but hoping to find something a bit wild and creative too. |
I have never heard of an old fashioned donut! If you specifically seek those three flavors, I think you need to go to Top Pot because I don't believe Mighty O carries them. Top Pot has several locations, so if you're taking the ferry, you're probably better off hitting the location downtown.
We don't have any wild/creative donut shops that I'm aware of. Portland has Voodoo, but we don't have anything similar. |
P.S. If you want junk food/bakery items and want creative/wild, then I would actually recommend cupcakes over donuts (Trophy or Cupcake Royale).
|
There's a Top Pot downtown on 5th Avenue between Lenora and Blanchard, so no need to drive out of downtown.
|
Oh, beanweb, in that case you must try the cinnamon old fashioned at Top Pot next time you're there...delish!
If you do opt for cupcakes, I haven't been yet but there's a place downtown called Yellowleaf that's been getting raves, and they have flavors like tomato soup, apparently. |
Yowza... tomato soup cupcakes??? I'm not sure I'm brave enough for that!
|
NWW beat me to it. There's a Top Pot on 5th Ave (under the monorail). Believe me, THAT'S the place you want.
|
Ooh . . I didn't see that TopPot had a location on 5th, that would be much easier. beanweb24, take a look at their website and you'll see an old fashioned. http://www.toppotdoughnuts.com/doughnuts.html
Thank you so much for the Yellowleaf rec as well. That place looks amazing. I've been out of the country for a while and the cupcake explosion hasn't really hit us. Just looking at their list of specialty cupcakes makes my mouth water! -Classic Red Velvet -Champagne Almond -Creme Brulee** + -Cream Puff -Irish Whiskey** + -Marshmallow Bliss** + -Pancakes n' Bacon -Root Beer Float -Sweet and Salty Chocolate Bacon -Tiramisu** + -Tomato Soup -White Chocolate Pretzel I cannot wait to try pancake and bacon! And marshmallow bliss! I might skip tomato soup though. Thanks again, for all the suggestions! |
Just back from our trip home. Unfortunately, we weren't able to make it to top pot! Strangely enough, we did pass through Portland and made a stop at Voo Doo. They had a maple and bacon bar that I loved! Their doughnuts (we tried 12 different ones) were delicious, but I was a little irritated by their names. I appreciate that they are trying to be edgy, but I need to know what I'm ordering -- Ol Dirty B@stard doesn't really tell me that it's a cake doughnut, covered in vanilla icing, oreos and peanut butter! It was great -- but I just get annoyed with places trying too hard to make it an insider thing.
And -- in case anyone else references this thread -- there is a Top Pot in Bellevue that I didn't spot until my way out of town and unfortunately already had a bag of Panera. Oh well. Next time! |
