Seattle Day Trips
 

I will be in Seattle for a few days on business during the first part of August. I have only been once, many years ago. I think I will have one or one and one-half days free to explore.

I suspect I'll see the city itself quickly and I would like to see some of the islands. From what little I know a good use of my time would be to get a car and drive to Port Townsend for lunch or something. Does that sound good? Any other areas I should explore in that limited time?

With that limited amount of time, I would probably explore downtown Seattle, Pike Place Market, the waterfront and Pioneer Square, and take the ferry over to Bainbridge for a meal (no car required). But if you have some special reason to see Port Townsend, it's do-able.

If you head to Port Townsend, we enjoyed driving around the LaConner area. Of course that was in the spring and all the daffodils were in bloom. It felt like a peek at Holland.

My ultimate day trip would be a trip to Victoria, BC if you have 1 1/2 days. It's a touch of England in North America. The ferry from Anacortes was one of the prettiest trips I've ever been on.

On my next trip I want to take a boat tour on the lake to see the houseboats (and the views)

Thanks. I went to Victoria the last time I was in Seattle and want to save a return trip for a time when I can spend more time on Vancouver Island.

How long a drive is it to Port Townsend? And, how long does this boat tours of Puget Sound take?

To get to Port Townsend you should take the Bainbridge ferry...figure an hour for wait time plus the crossing, and another hour at least to get from Bainbridge to PT. So two, two and a half hours or so.

I keep hearing that there will one day be a PT-Seattle ferry (as there was last year when Hood Canal Bridge was being repaired). Hasn't happened yet, though.
