Seattle - Crab Pot Experience
Yes, I was warned about this Seattle eatery. I read all the posts both negative and positive, and chose to take the chance just for the experience.
Our family of 4 went there Sunday night. We were ushered through the jam packed place to the outside porch which was was encased in clear plastic, seated at white plastic patio table and chairs. The large ceiling heaters added a nice cosy touch. So the food came, dumped on the table top as promised, and it was really quite tasty. We thought the $29/person was a bit steep considering they had no dishes and cutlery to wash afterwards. We had barely finished eating when it seemed like the place had suddenly emptied out. Besides our table there was only one other patron sitting inside. The wait staff had disappeared and the heaters were turned off. It was freezing out there! The bill had been plopped on the table, but no one informed us it was closing time, nothing. We finished our meal and had to go looking for someone to pay. We also needed to call a taxi so my husband went behind the counter and used their phone to call one. It was eerie that the entire place was dead all of a sudden, no patrons, no staff. Very weird! So add my name to the list of nay sayers. The food was good, I satisfied my curiosity, but the "experience" was overrated and expensive IMHO. Did enjoy a fantastic meal at Dragonfish one night though! Highly recommend it. |

I don't get it. The food was good, the experience was as described previously. I understand not recommending it because you think it was too pricey, but don't understand not recommending it because you chose to come close to closing time and felt abandoned while the staff was closing up the place.

When closing time approaches in a good restaurant, the waitstaff will politely inform you of this fact, while assuring you that you can take your time finishing your meal and paying the bill. You shouldn't ever be abandoned, left to freeze or hustled out. If a party comes to a restaurant too close to closing to be served well, the staff should decline to seat that party.

I have always been suspicious of the Crab Pot and service that amounts to dumping food in the middle of the table.

Thanks Christy, you got my point.
Just thought I would share my experience because if I had read this I most likely wouldn't have bothered to go there in the first place that's all. |
That reminds me of the time that I was a young boy. My Mother told me not to touch the oven door because it was hot. I did and got burned !!! Just like me you were warned but paid no heed. Then you post and tell everyone your sad tale.

Thank you for sharing your experience. We can mention it if, in the future, anybody inquires about the Crab Pot.

My husband and I ate there last year on my birthday. I don't like clams so he ate them, while I got all the shrimp. On hour or so later he was so ill, that we had to end the night early. Even though I didn't get sick I am sure it was the food, and I will never go again.
