Seattle before cruise
 

We're arriving about 7pm on Sat. nite and staying at Marriott Waterfront before leaving for Alaska cruise the next day. Any suggestions for a nearby restaurant for dinner the night we arrive and would we be able to visit the Space Needle the same night? We're getting up early the next morning to check out Pike Place Market and have a
nice breakfast before we leave
for the ship. Any suggestions for a quick visit other than the Market?

The restaurant right in the hotel (Chef Todd English's Fish Club) is allegedely very good (haven't been there yet); otherwise you can get excellent seafood-with-a-view at Elliott's Oyster House, a block or two south of your hotel and right on the water, or, just across the street and slightly north of your hotel, either Anthony's Pier 66 or the more casual Bell Street Diner (upstairs/downstairs respectively.) We really, really like the Anthony's places.

You could do the Space Needle if you want. Quite expensive for dinner and food only so-so IMO.

The market for breakfast is excellent - try Cafe Campagne, Lowell's (cafeteria style), Athenian Inn (old time diner, featured in films), Maximilien's - numerous others. Don't forget to get a latte at the original Starbucks, on the east side of Pike Place. (Note the mermaid on the sign is a real woman, compared to the current logo.) ;)

If you want to walk off a big breakfast, head down the hillclimb from the market to the waterfront, and go as a foot passenger on the Bainbridge Island ferry, which will give you the basic million dollar view of Seattle (allow 2 hours for the round trip.) Or, take the little Elliott Bay water taxi over to West Seattle (to a park next to Salty's on Alki, a famous view restaurant) for the same view, faster. The ocean air should help whet your appetites for the cruise to come.

Upon arrival, you could easily get a cab to the Space Needle in time for dinner there--killing two birds with one stone. The Space Needle restaurant is expensive but the food has received better reviews recently.

In my opinion, the view of Seattle from the park on Queen Anne Hill at Highland Drive is more spectacular than the one from the Space Needle.

Nearer the Marriott the restaurant in your hotel is good and the one at the nearby Edgewater Hotel has fabulous water views. The Waterfront Restaurant on Pier 70 is also excellent.

We stayed at the Edgewater for three nights last summer. Each am our room came with this amazing breakfast. There was no limit to what we could order. French toast,eggs benedict, sausage, bacon, and a beautiful fruit platter. The sky as the limit and it was sooooo good.

The views from the restaurant are just gorgeous. I think you will love it here. Service was wonderful and everything was first class. Enjoy Seattle! ***kim***
