Seattle Attractions Passes/Coupons for Locals??
 

One of my co-workers is moving to Seattle with his wife (no kids, couple in their early 30s). We are thinking that it would be fun to get them a membership to some place in Seattle--or an "explorer pass" type of deal that they could use to visit a number of places and then "they" can decide where they want a year long pass. They have fun, eclectic interests--board games, D&D, definite foodies. I said I would ask for the wisdom of the Fodorites!! Thanks for any and all ideas!

Hello, greetings from Seattle. I am not aware of any of those type of passes that are worth the money. I don't know any locals who use them, unless it's a park pass (Discover Pass).

How about getting them a gift certificate for a nice restaurant since they are foodies?

Like Suze says, the "passes" sold to tourists, such as the City Pass - https://www.citypass.com/seattle - are not very good value IMO. As future residents they can easily access the various sites and activities on their own terms.

But regarding their interests, there are umpteen D&D groups and venues (board games, RPG activities etc.) in the area. Here's a short list for what it's worth - Dungeons & Dragons groups in Seattle - Meetup

By any chance are they movie fans? One thing that came to mind was a gift membership to SIFF - the Seattle International Film Festival. The annual film festival (in May usually) is one of the biggest in the country, and the society owns three separate theaters/venues where they offer events year-round. Membership conveys discounts, many opportunities for lectures and get-togethers, and to be honest, being in a film society isn't a bad idea when it's raining from October to April. It's also a very social group - all ages and stations in life, and Seattle is very much a "movie town." Maybe worth some thought. SIFF

The Discover Pass is an excellent idea. It covers the state parks. Another option would be the American The Beautiful Pass, but that covers federal lands (such as Mt Rainier) but not the states parks. Most locals have both. The Discover Pass is $30/yr while the ATB pass is $80.

How about annual membership for the Seattle Art Museum? That would be a great local organization to support. Passes cover SAM downtown & Asian SAM in Volunteer Park.
