Seattle and Vancouver
My husband and I and sister in law are going to see our son who lives in Seattle. He is attending school at North Seattle Community College. We will arrive early on the morning of August 16 and depart on August 23. We want to spend a couple of days in Vancouver and the rest of the time in Seattle. I would like to know in both Seattle and Vancouver the best areas to stay. I have used Priceline in the past with good outcomes, but don't know which areas to bid in. We have also stayed in B&B's in the past and have enjoyed that experience as well. I would like to go whale watching if that is possible in either Seattle or Vancouver. My husband loves anything historical. We will be renting a car. My husband will celebrate his 60's birthday while we are gone, so we are all in out later 50's, but active. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi from Seattle
In Vancouver we always stay in the downtown core--you can walk everywhere--Stanley park, waterfront, etc. In Seattle I would also stay in the city--we live on Capitol Hill and find it very convenient to restaurants, shopping, Seattle Asian Art Museum and good bus service. There are several B&B's on the hill you might check out. Enjoy the Northwest |
I agree, stay in the Downtown Peninsula in Vancouver; I stayed at the Sylvia Hotel in the West End, which is. I stayed at the Gaslight Inn, a bed and breakfast, in the Capitol Hill neighbourhood and loved the location for exploring the city.
Vancouver and Seattle are pretty young cities so pretty limited in terms of civic history, but your husband might like the Museum of Anthropology in Van and the Burke Museum in Seattle for their fantastic exhibits on the history and culture of the Pacific Coast First Nations. My parents liked the "Underground Tour" for a look at 1800s Seattle, but I didn't do that. |
I wouldn't wait to book - I m going to Seattle a week before you and luckily I booked a room about 8 weeks ago. Prices are sky high for the same room. We are staying at Kimptons Alexis.
Try and see if these discounts might work for you. If you go with kimpton., be sure to join their In Touch Loyalty program for free wifi and other perks. Kimptons have free wine hour each night too! http://www.kimptonhotels.com/landing...mmer_2013.aspx |
Thanks for the info. Will be trying to book something tonight.

That should read "For Seattle, I stayed at the Gaslight Inn..."
|
I booked the Hyatt Regency on Burrard Street in Vancouver for $150/night on Priceline. Now i need to find something in Seattle. Is there anything around the Seattle community college area?

North Seattle CC is a commuter school. Where does your son actually live? |
He lives like a block from the school. He said we should get something downtown.

Does anybody know anything about the Edgewater Hotel in Seattle?
|
The Edgewater is a long-established hotel built on a pier actually over the water on Elliott Bay. The Beatles stayed there. It's a very nice hotel, with a great restaurant. You could do far worse.
|
I'm glad to hear that about the Edgewater as I won that one on Priceline. It looks pretty cool over the water. Since I love the water, I'm sure we will be happy there. Thanks!
