Seattle 11-12-13 of June
 

Hi, I'm going with my wife to Seattle in June for three days. Could you tell me what is the best thing to see and to do. We will have a car and plan to see : Olympic NP, Seattle, Mount Rainer, Vancouver and North Cascade (?). Is it too much and is there some better things to see than that. <BR>Thank's a lot (we are French so we want to see as many thing as possible before going back to paris).

That's quite a schedule for three days. Plan for a day for each--that makes five days. <BR> <BR>I'd skip Vancouver unless you want to spend a day or two across the river in Portland, Oregon. But an interesting experience down that way is Mt. St. Helens (the mountain that erupted a number of years ago). There's a circle trip for that. <BR> <BR>In Seattle, there's a cruise to Tillicum Village on Blake Island which has a Native American tie-in, plus a baked salmon dinner. When we're in Seattle, we always visit the Pike Place Market. <BR> <BR>We know you'll enjoy your trip.

Hello, Bruno, <BR>It is too much for 3 days - long distances, some mountain roads, long delays at US - Canada border (I assume you were referring to Vancouver B.C., not Vancouver, Washington). <BR>If you really want to do a lot of driving, do day trips from Seattle instead. Suggestions: <BR>Day 1: Seattle (plenty to see) <BR>Day 2: Day trip via car and ferry to Hurricane Ridge, in Olympic National Park near Port Angeles, return via Port Townsend and Whidbey Island (Puget sound, seashore, mountains) <BR>Day 3: Day circle trip, Seattle to Wenatchee via US Highway 2, Columbia river sightseeing, back via Interstate 90 or US Highway 12 (mountains, "old west" scenery). <BR>Or just stay in Seattle and enjoy our fine city. Have fun!

Bonjour Bruno! <BR>I spent about 10 days in July 96 covering all areas that you would like to do. So 3 days is definitely not enough. Since you are limited to time, I would recommend the following: <BR>Day 1 - Take the underground tour of Seattle. I know it isn't much but it is very informative and interesting! If anything, you will learn about the city and get some tips on what to see or do. <BR>I also suggest you visit the needle. I know its a tourist trap but hey you're a tourist! It's not something you would do twice. Definitely visit Pike's Market and the waterfront area below. Try the Mt. Rainer cherries! They're delicious. Also eat dinner at a seafood restaurant and try the Dungeness crabs...they were the best I ever had! <BR>Day 2 - It seems like you want to do some hiking so I suggest you either do Mt. Rainer or Olympic NP or Mt. Helena. <BR>Since I didn't go to Mt. Helena, I can't say anything about it. But if I had to choose b/w Mt. Rainer or Olympic NP, I prefer Mt. Rainer. I think it was closer and you have to remember once you get there, its another drive up the mountains. Olympic was more widespread and you need more than 1 day to explore all areas. <BR>Day 3 - I'm not sure! I would go with what other people suggested above. I went to San Juan Island through Anacortes on our way to Vancouver. You could go there from Seattle but I'm not sure if it will be too much. <BR>I hope you have a wonderful time! The Pacific Northwest is definitely beautiful! You'll love it! BTW, I was in Paris Dec 97 and loved it! Hoping to go again during warmer weathers....Au revoir!

Yes, for only three days just hang around Seattle and the general area. Have dinner at the Space Needle, visit the pier, take a boat ride, trample the city. If you want to drive a little (1/2 hour) go see the falls at Snoqualamie. If you want to pay good money for a hotel room (&gt;200 USD), reserve a room at the Salish Lodge there for one night. It can be a little difficult to find, but it's an easy drive straight east on I-90 (mostly). You'll probably have good weather in June, so the mountain will be out (that means visible)

Small world-my husband is French and we live part-time here in Seattle and part-time in France-where we will be in June when you are here! <BR> <BR>Seattle is great and it is always nice to see the French come here-because it is a region of "the outdoors", with lots of hiking, sailing etc-that all our French friends like. Since you will be here on a week-end, if it is sunny-the lines to the ferry for any of the islands may be very long-so I think the suggestions here are great-they keep you "on the mainland". I do think Friday could be a good day trip to Vancouver, BC and maybe stay overnight there, and then drive back on saturday "against" traffic. <BR>Bruno - for only three days, have to agree with D. B. above. You could possibly squeeze in a ride over to the Peninsula or a trip up to Mt. Rainier.

Bruno, "c'est dommage" that you don't have more time for your first visit here. As everyone else has noted, you have about 10 days worth of touring proposed for three days. I'd recommend spending one full day in Seattle, then heading out to the Olympic Peninsula, either for a day trip if you aren't outdoorsy types, or for an overnight if you do like to hike, etc. Mt. Rainier will still have lots of snow in early June, so hiking will be extremely limited. If you don't stay overnight on the Peninsula, then I'd suggest a day trip to Victoria on the high-speed passenger ferry. <BR>Enjoy your trip and hopefully you can come back soon and spend a more reasonable amount of time!
