searching for urban master planned community

I am searching for a quaint master planned community, similar to Watar Color, near Destin, FL. but looking for this in a mountain-lake community in North or South Carolina.
Does anyone know of any communities like this?

Is this for a vacation, or for permanent living?

Somebody at UNC Charlotte can answer your questions better than most of us travelers. http://coaa.uncc.edu/academics/school-of-architecture

This is for a permanent residence but will probably live there half the year.

Savannah Lakes Village in Thurman, SC
http://www.savannahlakes.com/

SLV is a planned community that is not age-restricted. I live in a similar community (Hot Springs Village, Arkansas). Cooper Communities developed several of these communities, all of which are of high quality. One of the nicest things is that there is no additional membership to a golf club. SLV has two golf courses (we have 8) as well as a full range of other community facilities. These are private communities with monthly Property Owner Dues which cover all of the amenities of a small city (roads, fire, police, etc.).

SLV is a seacoast community. Further inland, you could look at Cooper's Tellico Village in the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee. And further west, of course, come to Hot Springs Village. http://hsvpoa.org/
