Searching For The Sequim Beach With Fossils
 

Hey..does anyone know the location of the beach in Sequim where the Mammoth tooth and other items were found? I would appreciate any help....TY!

This last paragraph is a response to your other post. I don't know anything about the sequim fossils. A quick search on the internet leads me to believe that the beach would be around the town Sequim or Sequim Bay. There is a website for Sequim Beach Cabins and the cabins seem to be right near the town of Dungenous-just right up the road from the town Sequim.

We are going to Olympic the last week of July. Our first trip there or anywhere in Washington(did St Helens a couple of year ago). We did a lot in Oregon a couple of years ago. Anyway, I would think your kids would like tidepooling and walking through the Hoh Rain Forest. Soaking/Swimming in the hot springs pools at Sol Duc is another option. Hike to a couple of waterfalls. Maybe rent a canoe and do Crescent Lake or Lake Quinault. We are spending 3.5 days/nights there and staying at a different spot each night-Quinault, Kalaloch, and Sol Duc.

Mastodon teeth have been found, albeit rarely, along north Olympic Peninsula beaches. The remains are buried in nearby cliffs that are being eroded away, and the fossils are washed onto the beaches. Supposedly the most recent find was along the beach between Dungeness Bay and Sequim Bay.

Thank you both! I have recently begun getting back into "rockhounding" and when I saw some posts about finding Mastodon teeth..well, that would be fun to find, even though I do know that the chances are slim.

Alf, I live in Port Angeles which is the next town West of Sequim (in case you have never been here) so you would think I would have heard of this beach before now. How did I miss it? I saw the article about that little 8 year old girl finding half of a Mastodon molar but all they said was she found it on Sequim beach. Oh well...I guess I will go beach hunting BEFORE I go for the Mastodon fossils!

Spirobulldog, my kids are grown and I did most of the things you mentioned with them...now they and I have done it ( and still do!) with my G'children. The only thing we didn't do was the Solduc Hotsprings...we always went to the Olympic Hotsprings as it is a nice little 5 mile hike and they are MUCH less crowded. The only drawback for some people is that they are natural springs so they are not like a swimming pool. Too bad you didn't have more time here....there are so many things to see and do. Where are you coming from?
